GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, plans and implements occupational therapy services and programs for Grafton students. Duties include conducting assessments and evaluations to identify student abilities, disabilities and occupational therapy needs; determines appropriate occupational therapy services and hours; and develops related goals and objectives for the student's IEP. Develops and implements therapy plans and activities to meet identified goals and objectives. Reports to the Principal, Assistant Principal, or Clinical Program Manager.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provides occupational therapy programs and services for assigned students; to include individual and group therapy sessions and/or consultation services as approved in the IEP.
  • Conducts formal assessments of student abilities regarding fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing and development, visual perception and activities of daily living. Identifies abilities, disabilities and targeted behaviors and skills. Develops curriculum, therapy plans and related therapeutic activities. Writes occupational therapy goals and objectives for IEP.
  • Writes lesson plans for assigned programs and students. Develops therapy and teaching strategies to successfully incorporate development, training and reinforcement activities to support each student's IEP and to facilitate the student's achievement of IEP's occupational goals and objectives. Prepares materials for planned activities and therapy sessions.
  • Collects and records IEP and progress related data obtained from therapy sessions and activities. Maintains and implements data graphs according to Grafton’s Goal Mastery standards. Evaluates students’ achievements and progress pertaining to occupational therapy; and documents in monthly and/or 9-week progress reports, discharge summaries and annual reviews.
  • Consults with supervisors, academic peers and other Grafton staff relating to student treatment plans and needs. Ensures compatibility of instructional formats and management procedures for each student in concert with his/her treatment team and overall treatment needs.
  • Reviews admissions packets to include previous occupational therapy assessments, goals, and treatment.
  • Submits individual therapy notes for each therapy session according to Grafton standards and timelines.
  • Identifies and obtains necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Implements crisis intervention strategies as needed. Documents and reports all incidents in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings and committees such as IEP meetings, staff meetings, etc.
  • Provides program related training to Grafton staff as requested.
  • Supervises COTA when needed. Supervises field work OTR and OTA students as needed.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains supplies and equipment; orders supplies as needed.
  • Attends conferences and workshops to keep abreast of professional trends, developments and techniques.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy or a related field. Prefer 1-2 years of clinical experience providing occupational therapy; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Requires licensure by Virginia Department of Health Professionals.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid driver’s license.
