Job Summary
The Minnesota Board of Nursing exists to protect the public's health and safety through regulation of nursing, education, licensure and practice. The Board conducts business through five major areas: credentialing, education, discipline/complaint resolution, nursing practice and data.
The Office and Administrative Specialist, Intermediate supports public health and safety by handling assigned record keeping, documentation, correspondence, scheduling, and other complaint handling responsibilities in a timely and effective manner. The incumbent works closely with Nursing Practice staff to process and track reported complaints, assists in monitoring compliance with orders, and performs other administrative tasks as requested. The incumbent deals with numerous complex issues and a variety of people and is expected to establish priorities and perform independently in a manner that accomplishes the goals and supports the agency.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Business English skills (writing, speaking, and reading) sufficient to compose correspondence using accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation and communicate effectively with co-workers, customers, and the public.
- Customer service skills sufficient to: (1) provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to all internal and external stakeholders on the phone, in-person, through email and other written correspondence; and (2) effectively communicate and elicit information with tact and diplomacy in difficult situations, and efficiently resolve customer problems.
- Word processing skills sufficient to effectively use (1) Microsoft Word to develop and modify a variety of correspondence, records, forms, and reports and (2) PowerPoint to develop data presentations.
- Data entry skills sufficient to accurately create database records, update entries, query and run reports.
- Spreadsheet skills (i.e., Microsoft Excel) sufficient to develop and modify basic spreadsheets and sort and extract data.
- Math skills sufficient to handle receipts and calculate fees.
- Ability to manage public and non-public data.
- Ability to learn, understand and apply policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or two years of college.
- Administrative experience which includes but is not limited to handling a variety of correspondence, record keeping, and documentation tracking and follow up responsibilities.
- Experience with handling legal documents.
- Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to resolve problems in a timely manner with limited supervision.
- Experience handling sensitive or confidential information and using independent judgement when determining appropriate actions.
- Knowledge of HIPAA requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 10-25 lbs at times.
- Ability to regularly use phone and computer for extended time periods.
