Position Overview

The Department of Computer and Data Sciences in the School of Science and Engineering is
seeking two (2) open rank (tenured/tenure track) faculty members to join their team starting in
Academic Year 2023-24. The successful candidates will have active, high-impact research
programs, ideally with existing funding, the capacity to develop and teach the curriculum in the
areas of Artificial Intelligence and/or Cybersecurity,and engage in service to the School and
College community. This position will support our rapidly growing student population at both the
graduate and undergraduate levels.

Position Summary

The School of Science and Engineering, Computer and Data Sciences (CaDS) invites
applications for multiple open rank tenured/tenure-track faculty positions in Computer Science
(applications considered at the assistant, associate, and full professor levels), anticipated to
begin in August 2023. While all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, the department
is especially interested in candidates with an active research specialization in one or both of
the following broadly defined areas: Artificial Intelligence (including machine learning, natural
language processing, and data mining), or Cybersecurity (including cryptography, privacy,
and computer forensics).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Developing and delivering course materials to undergraduate and graduate students,
demonstrating teaching excellence informed by high-impact scholarship.
  • Supervising and advising undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Establishing and/or maintaining a quality publication record.
  • Developing and maintaining a strong, visible, externally funded research program that
will contribute to scholarly publication.
  • Contributing both institutionally and professionally through active service to the
department, school, and wider Merrimack community.
  • Cultivating and promoting an inclusive and diverse Merrimack community through
recruiting, mentorship, collaboration, and service.

About the Department of Computer and Data Sciences (CaDS)

CaDS houses four programs (BS in Computer Science, BS in Data Science, MS in Computer
Science, and MS in Data Science) and is home to a rapidly growing student population at
graduate and undergraduate levels. The department currently has 4 full-time tenured/tenure
track faculty and 3.5 full time teaching faculty. The CaDS Department focuses on a
fundamentally sound experiential approach to education that prepares outstanding graduates in
the areas of software engineering, data science, and cybersecurity. Additionally, the department
works collaboratively on both research and curriculum development with other areas of the
institution.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess a Ph.D. from an accredited program in Computer Science, Data
Science, or a closely related field by the start of the appointment. Demonstrate the potential
to run an active and productive research portfolio that has the potential to secure external
funding. Commitment to teaching and curriculum development. Possess strong
interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrate willingness to be an enthusiastic,
engaged member of the department/school. Additionally, the ability to foster an environment
that values diversity, equity and inclusion is expected of all Merrimack community members.

School of Science and Engineering

The School of Science and Engineering is dedicated to providing students with the foundation
for a high-quality STEM education. The School is composed of a talented and dedicated team
of faculty and staff preparing students for impactful careers. The School opened a new
Engineering Innovation Center in fall 2022 to fuel collaboration, hands-on learning, and
research.

Required Vaccinations & Remote Work

This is an on-campus position as employees are essential in order to provide a fully
on-campus, residential college experience for our students and the community. Merrimack
