Buckeye Partners is currently seeking a Manager, Safety & Operations Management System with experience in developing, implementing and managing management systems in the Oil & Gas Industry to join our growing team!


Role Summary:

The Manager, Safety & Operations Management System role is responsible for implementation and ongoing management of Buckeye’s management system to: enhance risk management and regulatory compliance, reinforce the culture of continuous improvement, advance operational excellence, drive company performance and enable execution of Buckeye’s Mission.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • SOMS Implementation – Provide guidance to Standard Owners related to the ongoing management and continuous improvement of Standards.
  • SOMS Document Development and Control – Ensure SOMS Standards remain in compliance with annual review cycles. Support alignment of policies, standards, manuals, procedures, guidance, tools, and checklists to the SOMS Hierarchy and in compliance with the Document Development and Control Standard.
  • SOMS Communications and Stakeholder Engagement - Maintain communications with Operations Leaders and Program Owners on SOMS implementation and continuous improvement. Implement ongoing communication strategy to keep SOMS visable across the organization including SOMS in Action communications. Maintain SOMS-related communications with internal and external stakeholders.
  • SOMS Performance Assurance

o Support SMART SOMS KPI tracking and presentation across all Standards in collaboration with the Operational Excellence Team and SOMS Standard Owners.

o Suport leadership, implementation and management of the SOMS Maturity and Effectiveness Evaluation process.

o Support leadership, implementation, and management of SOMS Self-Assessments Program in alignment with the High Performance Team Program.

o Support leadership, implementation and management of SOMS Standard Assessments.

o Coordinate and participate in SOMS Audits.

  • SOMS Leadership Review - Facilitate regular update meetings with Standard and Element Owners. Present periodic updates to Sr. Leadership to provide visibility to SOMS program implementation and performance.
  • SOMS Continuous Improvement - Identify and track approved SOMS continuous improvement opportunities to completion. Drive stakeholder engagement through initiative identification, prioritization, development, and implementation to assure that continous improvement initiatives are fully developed and implemented to provide the desired results.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (engineering/technical/master’s preferred).
  • 10 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong understanding and experience with management systems.
  • Strong project management skills and employee management experience.
  • Proficiency using work management systems plus experience with Microsoft Office products including Outlook Explorer, Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio and SharePoint is required.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% both domestically and internationally.
