PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Utility Associate's responsibility is to support the production team by performing various functions associated with our manufacturing production line.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES

  • Setting up all equipment so that it will run properly.

  • Assisting maintenance mechanics with preventive maintenance of machinery and by reporting any problems with operation or suspected maintenance needs; assists with greasing bearings and performing other maintenance as mechanic requests

  • Knowing and having the right specifications for the product being run on the line

  • Preparing carton formers to run the correct cartons needed for the product

  • Making sure that the correct materials are brought to the line; if not, notifying Forklift Driver to remove and bring the correct ones

  • Unstacking cartons from the pallet, stacking them on the carton lift, placing the cartons properly in the machine and making adjustments so the machine will run properly

  • Ensuring the formers are correctly set up before shift and listing any defects

  • Aassisting in the set-up and operation of other packaging equipment as requested by the Team Leader or as production needs dictate. This includes, but is not limited to sealers, baggers, tape machines, metal detectors, and check weighers.

  • Adding the proper weight so cartons are pulled one at a time

  • Periodically checking to make sure that the cartons are formed correctly; notifies Production Team Leader immediately of any problems such as color changes on cartons, and works with QA Auditor and Group Leader to correct problems

  • Sweeping debris on the floor into small piles, picking it up with a dustpan, and placing it in the proper waste container

  • Disposing of paper, plastic or other packaging material into the proper trash container

  • Pushing trash carts, waste carts, or carrying tubs of waste materials to proper disposal area

  • Using a low-pressure water hose to wash down the last traces of food debris down the drain, consistent with plant wastewater and sanitation policies

  • Using a rubber squeegee to push water off the floor toward and down floor drains

  • Preparing all paperwork required for quality and production records

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1 to 2 Years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to follow directions
  • Punctual and reliable in their work attendance
  • Adhere to all safety and quality policies and practices
  • Ability to work as a team player
  • Ability to perform basic math functions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Bilingual a plus
