Duties and Responsibilities: A post-baccalaureate, postmaster or postdoc trainee position in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology is open in the lab of Dr. Chava Kimchi-Sarfaty (Lab_Page) in the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research of the FDA.

Our lab is broadly interested in understanding the phenotypic impact of synonymous mutations. This is an exceptional opportunity for to learn new analytics skills as part of a collaborative research group.

The successful candidate will work as part of a group that includes biochemists, molecular biologists and computational biologists and collaborate with other research groups. The range of techniques will be used to address urgent unmet needs related to protein therapeutics including studying the role of synonymous mutations, codon optimization and codon usage in protein functionality. Applicants should have prior hands-on experience in biochemical techniques and cell culture. Ability to work collaboratively and adopt new technologies outside their comfort zone is an essential quality for this position.

Postgraduate must have received their degree within 5 years of the appointment start date, or must complete all requirements for such a degree prior to the desired start date.

Previous trainees have co-authored peer-reviewed publications, and several have successfully matriculated to graduate or medical school.

Position Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (minimum) with experience or coursework in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology.

The following skills are desirable: Hands-on experience in biomolecular analysis such as PCR, Western Blotting, ELISA and cell culture.

Location: The laboratoryis located on the FDA campus in Silver Spring, Maryland which offers an excellent environment for professional development.
