PRIMARY FUNCTION:The job of Parent Mentor was established for the purpose/s of assisting school systems in employing a parent of a child with a disability to advise, educate, and support families on a daily basis with the long term objective of giving all children a better chance to reaching their fullest potential; nurture more communication among parents, teachers and administrators that will ultimately lead to greater success for our students.

This posting is to recruit for existing vacancies and/or positions that become available at our various schools for the 2022-2023 school year.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Develop a network of additional parent resources and a newsletter for parents for the purpose of achieving the goals and objectives of the work unit.
• Organizes parent workshops and meetings for the purpose of decreasing parental isolation and developing parent involvement with their child’s school activities.
• Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops, and committees (e.g. parent-student workshops, educational seminars, department in-service, staff meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
• Provide appropriate training to parents for the purpose of maintaining an effective support system for their students in school and work effectively with school officials.
• Provide customer friendly information packets for parents for the purpose of keeping the parents involved in their students education.

Daily attendance and punctuality are required for the purpose of ensuring the goals of the work unit can be met.

• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
• Serves as liaison to parents, staff, and students for the purpose of removing barriers to student’s success in school.
