Part Time Athletic Director


We are looking for a detail-oriented, organized individual to join our staff as our part time athletic director; other income opportunities, such as substitute teaching or combining this position with another are possible. You should be willing to enforce policy and be part of a culture changing organization.


The responsibilities of the athletic director include organizing sports functions, hiring, mentoring, and evaluating coaches, overseeing sports facilities, and managing all aspects of the sports department.


To be a successful high school athletic director, you should be passionate about sports and education and have a keen understanding of the development of young athletes. Ultimately, a top-notch high school athletic director should be energetic and detail-oriented with good leadership and communication skills.


Athletic Director Responsibilities:

  • Scheduling and overseeing sports functions
  • Arranging travel logistics for all sports teams to attend away games
  • Ensure athletic fields and facilities are prepared and maintained per MHSAA guidelines
  • Buying athletic equipment and ensuring they are maintained
  • Building community relations and handling media inquiries
  • Developing and implementing processes and procedures for the athletics department to ensure the school remains compliant with athletic rules and regulations
  • Managing the athletics programs and department
  • Coordinating with coaches on games, practice, and event schedules
  • Hiring and firing coaches, and assessing and monitoring current and prospective coaches
  • Tracking and reporting on team progress through analyzing past performances, recent successes, and areas for improvement
  • Maintaining an awareness of industry events and changes, such as regulation changes
  • Inspecting facilities and equipment for cleanliness, safety, and upkeep
  • Approving the purchase of necessary equipment and facility upgrades


Athletic Director Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in sports management, athletic administration, or a related field; OR 5 years of experience as a school athletic director
  • Teacher certification or 60 college credit hours and a willingness to substitute teach in the classroom preferred
  • Knowledge in the following sports: volleyball, basketball, football, baseball, softball, bowling, golf, track
  • Keen understanding of how young athletes should be developed
  • Comfortable having hard conversations with parents and enforcing sportsmanship expectations at competitions
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills


Pay will commensurate with final position assignments and responsibilities. Certified applicants hired as teachers will follow the salary schedule and receive a stipend for the AD position.
