The purpose of this position is to facilitate workflows for Distribution Services Department. Schedule/dispatch leak crews, tappers, new service inspectors, valve crews, line locators and hydrant crews. Serve as contact for city personnel, contractors, and general public. Issue, track, update and process notifications and work orders and process right-of-way/excavating permits from government entities.

Pay Range: From $24.87
Responsibilities:
- Monitor SAP for work notifications on a continual basis. Prioritize notifications, route appropriately, coordinate with assistant managers and foremen, and dispatch necessary personnel to respond to emergency situations.
- Create notifications for line locates in WaterOne locate request system and SAP. Notify Foremen by email or phone of emergency requests and non-response calls.
- Provide two-way radio communication service to all WaterOne mobile and stationary radio users. Interpret verbal messages, relay, or otherwise distribute messages to others in the field or office. Monitor all two-way radio conversations.
- Issue, track, update, process, and complete notifications and work orders within SAP.
- Maintain log of out-of-service fire hydrants and communicate hydrant status to Johnson County Fire Dispatch.
- Compile data for monthly Division Performance Measures Report.
- Procure right-of-way/excavating permits from municipalities in WaterOne’s boundaries. Process payments for excavation permits.
- Respond to requests for mapping or historical information from staff.
- Schedule new service connection taps and preliminary inspections. Generate tap and preliminary inspection work orders in accordance with schedule. Update new service connection information from the initial scheduling through the preliminary inspection.
- Provide service-related information to WaterOne field personnel, plumbers, and customers.
- Communicate water outages and street closures due to field crew activity to appropriate emergency services, Notify JoCo and WaterOne Customer Services Department.
- Maintain a list of all emergency phone numbers needed by Dispatch and Emergency personnel.
- Schedule and coordinate field line locates with all other utilities for WaterOne field crews. Maintain a computer record of all locate requests.
Required Education, Skills & Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Grade I Distribution Operator’s Certification (or ability to obtain within 24 months).
- Two years’ office experience, including experience in a dispatch center or similar environment.
- Must become knowledgeable of municipalities’ specification standards for right-of-way/excavating permits.
- Reflect a professional and cordial image to customers and employees on the phone and radio.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of software with emphasis in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Proficiency or ability to become proficient in the use of SAP, GIS, and AIMS software applications.
- Requires good problem-solving skills and attention to detail with a high level of efficiency.
- Superior communications skills and the ability to maintain composure in emergency situations.
- Good reading comprehension and accuracy.
- Use good judgment and have an organized approach to maintaining priorities.
- Have good knowledge of the WaterOne service area including city boundaries, street names, and street locations.
- Organized and flexible, able to handle multiple projects and move easily from one function to another; occasionally under hectic conditions.
- Maintain a good working relationship with all levels of personnel at WaterOne, customers, contractors, plumbers and visitors.
- Must be able to work overtime in emergency situations.
- Must pass post offer medical exam, including drug screen and background verification (may not apply to current employees).
Preferred Education, Skills & Experience
- Two years of college course work, including courses relevant to a utility or construction environment.
- Knowledge of field work in a utility or construction-related business.
