Your job in a nutshell
The Patient Care Reimbursement Specialist supports the Billing and Customer Service groups in overseeing the patient experience and billing process. This includes interfacing with internal and external customers, handling patient and client billing inquiries, maintaining internal and vendor systems, and data entry tasks. Our ideal candidate has experience interacting directly with patients and overseeing account receivables for a doctor's office, laboratory, or another medical facility. We also expect applicants to have knowledge of billing systems, medical terminology, and health insurance providers.
The Patient Care Reimbursement Specialist will preferably be performing work in our Offices in San Diego, California and reports to the Reimbursement Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support of the Billing and Customer Service departments relating to SkylineDx Effectively build rapports with diverse internal and external patient and customer base.
- Take and respond to calls each day, providing required information to external agents and patients.
- Provide patients and clients with information regarding services, rates, and the SkylineDx financial assistance program.
- Maintain accurate call records of patient interactions and/or transactions including recording details of inquiries, complaints, or comments, to include action steps taken to resolve reason for call.
- Successfully and effectively address patient billing and financial assistance inquiries.
- Receive, review, and resolve client inquiries regarding billing and invoice disputes.
- Answer questions regarding insurance coverages, and pre-qualifications for insurance modules and riders.
- Reply to Billing and Customer Service email and fax correspondence, and route calls to other departments when appropriate
You have
- A High school diploma or Associate's degree in Accounting or Business Administration or related field. Medical billing certification preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in customer service, call center, or similar role where ownership of managing the customer experience is emphasized.
- Medical billing experience working within a call center, hospital or lab environment, health insurance company, managed care organization or other health care financial service setting preferred.
- Understanding of healthcare terminology and experience with billing operations performing medical claims processing, patient financial counseling, and healthcare collections preferred.
- Previous experience with medical billing software applications preferred (TELCOR, XIFIN).
- Ability to effectively address regular inbound call and email volume.
- Ability to interpret an explanation of benefits (EOB) and have a thorough understanding of patient responsibility and advice codes.
- Ability to follow and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and department policies
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with patients, customers, peers, and leadership.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow through on tasks, projects, and assignments.
- Advanced customer service, problem solving, critical thinking and interpersonal skills with focus on quality and professionalism.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and correct any errors.
- Self-starter, capable of working independently and collaboratively.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
