Central State Hospital (CSH), a State of Virginia mental health hospital located near Petersburg, VA, is recruiting for an Administrative & Office Specialist III (Payroll Technician).
This position serves as payroll technician in the provision of a full range of payroll services for one or more of the two facilities (Central State Hospital & Hiram W. Davis Medical Center) making up the Southside Complex of the Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services (DBHDS). It is responsible for generating, processing, reconciling, and auditing both hourly and permanent payrolls, time, and leave records. Duties involve calculations, computations, checking and reconciling a variety of statistical and financial records and reports, on a semi-monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Payroll is complex compared to most state agencies in that five shift differentials are involved, a system of campus timekeepers, the Virginia Sickness & Disability Program (VSDP), and large wage and overtime volume.

Minimum Qualifications
The experience we’re looking to add to our team:
Must have: strong knowledge of general accounting/payroll policies; strong mathematical and analytical skills; excellent customer service skills; the ability to interpret, understand, and apply rules, regulations, and operating procedures; the ability to get along well with multiple personalities, and clearly communicate rules of payroll; and basic understanding of payroll taxes, insurance and fringe benefits. Experience operating automated payroll and accounting systems, experience with Microsoft Office software especially spreadsheets, experience in a payroll environment; and a High School Diploma or GED is also required.
