We are looking for an upbeat, compassionate, and positive candidate to join our team as the Peaceful Solutions Coordinator within our Peaceful Solutions Team.

JOB SUMMARY

Peaceful Solutions specializes in providing restorative circles, a group conversation technique, free of hierarchy, used to develop relationships, build community, and respond to conflicts. By engaging students in restorative practices, Peaceful Solutions aims to reduce the schools’ high suspension rates and increase long-term student success. With particular emphasis on students of color and marginalized populations. Peaceful Solutions reduces the need for zero tolerance policies by identifying the root cause of negative student behavior and contextualizing an appropriate solution. Peaceful Solutions is the only project of its type in the Greater Cincinnati region, and nationally, one of the few to provide restorative practices in elementary schools.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate restorative practices circles with elementary students, including proactive and reactive circles (conflict resolution, acclimation, and re-entry).
  • Facilitate small groups for high-need students.
  • Coordinate in student re-entry process with school personnel.
  • Collaborate with school personnel to collectively determine the most appropriate timing for circle interventions.
  • Implement tracking system for students.
  • Provide outreach and referrals for school staff
  • Develop and maintain relationships and collaborations with school staff
  • Provide students with a supportive, non-punitive experience that allows them to speak freely and honestly while building community through open dialogue.
  • Maintain confidentiality and accurate records and database

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Other duties as needed or assigned by the Senior Director, Nonresidential DV Services
  • Support to Management, Supervisors, and Staff

  • Respond to routine emails, phone calls, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or related field required
  • Experience working with adolescents and/or pre-adolescents
  • Familiar with issues of trauma (esp. domestic violence/teen relationships abuse), violence prevention, and victimization
  • Experience with school-based programming preferred
  • Experience with workshop and/or group facilitation
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others
  • A strong commitment to providing anti-racist, culturally competent services, as well as a knowledge of systemic issues
  • Ability to work independently and maintain flexibility for working in a demanding school environment
  • Ability to be creative in engaging youth individually and in large groups
  • Exhibits professional and ethical behavior
  • Strong understanding of violence prevention/intervention work preferred
  • Knowledge of social service work with youth preferred
  • Ideal candidates will demonstrate a passion for strength-based, youth empowerment work; will exhibit creativity in their approach of job tasks and challenges; and will be self-motivated

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working Hours/Environment

  • Office hours are 37.5 per week; may require additional hours periodically, including evening and weekends depending on business needs
  • This position is hybrid; in-school and at-home work depending on program needs

Tools and Equipment Used

  • Personal computer, copier, fax/scanner, phone, and other typical office equipment

Physical & Mental Demands

  • Frequently required to stand or sit for long periods of time depending on the project
  • Digital dexterity and hand/eye coordination in operation of equipment and machinery
  • Light lifting and carrying of supplies and tools, etc.
  • Ability to speak to and hear employees/clients via phone or in person
  • Body motor skills sufficient to enable incumbent to move around the office environment
  • Additional Mental Requirements: compare, decide, direct, problem solve, analyze, instruct, interpret
