The Center for Children with Special Needs (CCSN) at Tufts Medicine Pediatrics seeks a Pediatric or Psychiatric nurse practitioner to deliver care to children and youth at the Center for Children with Special Needs, Tufts Medicine. The successful candidate will participate in the diagnostic assessment and treatment of children and youth with diverse disabilities, many of whom have co-existent mental health conditions. This position could potentially also be filled by a psychiatric nurse practitioner interested in working with children with disabilities.
The focus of this position is to offer assessment and treatment services consistent with a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics Practice. Clinical duties include diagnostic assessment, psychoeducation, behavioral interventions, and medications. Prior expertise and/or interest in the evaluation and treatment of children with diverse disabilities, and working closely with their families, is required. Disabilities include ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Autism, and Intellectual Disabilities, amongst others. Clinical duties also include case management and care coordination.
Description of our Center:
The CCSN is an outpatient clinic operating within Tufts Medicine. It is one of the larger clinics of its size in the Boston area, and serves a population of culturally and linguistically diverse children and youth with neurodevelopmental disabilities, and their families.
The Tufts Medicine Pediatrics was created in 2022 and is dedicated to the improving the quality of health outcomes at the community level. We are excited to be part of this new Pediatric academic venture and are actively seeking professionals to help fulfill the Tufts Medicine mission: Community based, equitable, and inclusive care for a diverse population.
How You’ll Transform Patient Care:
- Diagnostic assessment. Patients at the CCSN commonly require evaluation and treatment for multiple conditions. These may include one or more developmental disabilities one or more mental health conditions, and one or more medical conditions.
- Psychoeducation. Experience with and interest in psychoeducation, i.e. teaching the child and family about the nature of the disability and how to optimize overall functioning.
- Behavioral interventions. Experience with and interest in delivering behavior management strategies that support the successful functioning of children with disabilities
- Care coordination. Experience with and interest in developing inter-agency communication and collaboration skills. The successful candidate will interface with diverse agencies, such as health care agencies, public schools, Early Intervention, in-home behavioral health providers, and/or State agencies such as the Department of Developmental Services, Department of Mental Health, and the Department of Children and Families.
- Inter-professional skills. Experience with and interest in developing inter-professional skills. The successful candidate will interface with diverse professionals working at the CCSN including neuropsychology, speech pathology, education, social work, physician assistants, medical assistants, and physicians.
- Experience with a culturally and linguistically diverse population. Interest and/or Experience with practices that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Experience or interest in the educational mission of the CCSN. Interest in teaching and learning with inter-professional colleagues and inter-professional trainees.
Workweek obligations: 40 hours/week Monday-Friday; hybrid schedule (remote/clinic) will be considered.
Location: Position would be based at the Boston Tufts Medical Center campus location and in satellite locations.
Who You Are:
- MSN required
- BLS Certification required
- 1+ years experienced preferred; experience in Pediatrics necessary
