Essential Functions:
- Performs routine pediatric phlebotomy
- Creates patient requisitions in the Laboratory Information System
- Logs, labels, and processes specimens and paperwork for testing.
- Orders, unpacks, logs and stores supplies.
- Transcription and data entry.
- Helps to ensure draw stations and laboratory areas are neat and clean.
- Uses and wears protective equipment and clothing as appropriate. Incumbent is responsible for becoming familiar with and following all safety procedures. Properly reports all incidents.
- Maintains cooperative working relationships.
- Demonstrates effective two-way communication to create an informed positive environment.
- Demonstrates initiative in making suggestions to improve efficiency and productivity and provides consistent feedback.
- Organizes and processes clinical specimens accurately. Identifies worksheet, computer and specimen problems and demonstrates ability to either resolve or elevate to licensed personnel appropriately.
- Work with Foundation Labs to ensure patient samples get transferred in an appropriate manner.
- Ability to understand and assist two or more providers with clinical care.
- Coordinate consult/referral, hospital/ER, community resource follow-up/tracking process for the practice.
- Serves as an advocate for patients and utilizes appropriate resources.
- Works collaboratively with provider(s) and other staff to ensure the delivery of quality care to patients to ensure best patient outcome.
- Pre-visit planning workflow to ensure care completion prior to visit whenever possible.
- Review after visit summary with patients whenever appropriate.
- Involving the patients in activities to improve their health (patient engagement).
- Educating the patient about self-management tasks they can undertake to gain greater control of their health status.
- Manage many aspects of the patient’s care: referrals to specialists, hospitalizations, ER visits, ancillary testing, specialty medications and other outside services.
- Responsible for being available to provide telephone advice per protocol, handle urgent calls and emergent calls.
- Assess barriers when a patient has not met treatment goals, is not following a treatment plan of care, or has not kept important appointments.
- Serve as a liaison for out of state patients.
- Assisting with clinical care, such as but not limited to:
- Checking in patients
- Obtaining vitals
- Diagnostic procedures
- Exercising patients
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Valid California State Phlebotomist License required.
- Minimum two (2) years pediatric phlebotomy experience.
- Minimum two (2) years medical assistance experience.
- Minimum two (2) years customer service experience.
- Team mentality and positive working attitude.
- Strong verbal/written communication skills.
Education/Experience:
- Computer Skills: word processing skills using Windows based software (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Typing skills are desirable.
- Customer service experience required.
- MS Office Suite preferred.
- EMR experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
