Per Diem Nuclear Medicine PET/CT Technologist

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

New England PET Imaging System is hiring a per diem Nuclear Medicine PET/CT Technologist. Reporting to the PET/CT Chief Technologist[SK1], the per diem Nuclear Medicine PET/CT Technologist performs clinical diagnostic PET & CT [SK2]scans along with the computer interactions associated with these studies. In addition, the technologist will be required to perform Computed Tomography imaging (attenuation correction only and/or diagnostic) as ordered in conjunction with PET exams. The NE PET Imaging System consists of fixed sites in Lowell and Methuen MA and a mobile unit currently traveling between Dover and Manchester, NH and Haverhill, MA. This is a weekend position, providing Saturday coverage at our Wentworth-Douglass location in Dover, NH. Qualified candidates must be available to work 2-4 shifts per month.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Per aseptic technique guidelines, prepares commercially supplied PET radiopharmaceuticals for use in patient studies.

· Determines radiopharmaceutical to be utilized based upon established guidelines, consulting with physician when necessary. Calculates patient dosage.

· Explains procedure, reassuring patient and securing his/her full cooperation during testing.

· Completes daily QC testing of scanner and ancillary components (i.e., dose calibrator etc.)

· Administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients and completes PET imaging.

· The technologist will be required to perform Computed Tomography imaging (attenuation correction only and/or diagnostic) as ordered in conjunction with PET exams.

· Performs intra-venous peripheral catheter insertion as authorized by Nuclear Medicine physician for the administration of radiopharmaceuticals.

· Acquires/processes/reconstructs images when appropriate. Labels patient images with such data as radiopharmaceutical amount, time of the injection, equipment utilized, and additional patient study related information etc., in accordance with ACR requirements. Archives patient data to NE PET storage system and PACS for long term storage[SK3]. Retrieves appropriate patient studies for review and comparison with previous studies.

· Maintains departmental records as required by regulatory agencies.

· Consistently uses radiation safety techniques, including use of protective shielding and handling and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals. Takes appropriate precautions to minimize exposure of staff and patients to infectious, radioactive or biohazard agents.

· Ensures that correct protocol, radiation dose, and contrast are administered to patient for CT scanning, when ordered as such.

· Moves, transports and positions patients for diagnostic studies.

· Follows Institutional/ Departmental guidelines for patient safety and patient care.

· Interfaces and coordinates with appropriate front office staff as related to duties of the position.

· Alerts Chief Technologist [SK4]regarding equipment problems, problems encountered during testing, etc.

· Assists in on-the-job training of students as assigned.

· Follows area policies/guidelines to perform imaging studies of superior technical quality.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Computer analysis of image data
  • Use of imaging systems including PET/CT scanner, radiation monitoring equipment, CT contrast power injector
  • Excellent, effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 50lbs, be able to, position, push or transfer patients, have manual dexterity and mobility, be able to see clearly at 20 feet or more, be able to see clearly at 20 inches or less, be able to judge distance and space relationships, be able to see peripherally, and be able to distinguish and identify different colors.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served (all adult age groups) at assigned site.
  • Ability to foster and promote a positive image and a professional appearance.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Your daily assignment will be to work as a team with at least one additional PET/CT technologist[SK5]
  • Our mobile unit is self-contained with a separate Hot Lab, Control room and Scan room. Methuen site occasionally performs diagnostic CT. The mobile unit works with host hospital Radiology departments to check in and greet the patients.

EDUCATION:

  • BS degree in NM Technology preferred

· Nuclear Medicine Certified through ARRT or NMTCB

· NH Nuclear Medicine Technologist license

· MA Nuclear Medicine Technologist license

· MA Radiologic Technologist (CT) License a plus

· AHA BLS for CPR and AED training

EXPERIENCE

  • Prefer 1-2 years’ experience in PET/CT imaging. Recent graduates considered

[SK3]As well as a storage system for NE PET Imaging

[SK4]Assistant Chief Technologist

[SK5]We do have one per diem technologist able to work alone at some of the sites. Do we want to mention that could be an issue or always have per diems with another technologist.

Pay: $45.00 - $50.00 per hour
