Pharmacy Inventory Control Technician


Under the direction of the Assistant Director and Director, maintains the administrative operations of the pharmacy and appropriate inventory levels to assure quality patient care. Under supervision of a registered pharmacist, performs the technical tasks involved with the storage, distribution, packaging, patient billing, and medication labeling and associated record-keeping.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Under one year of Hospital experience preferred.
  • One year of Inventory Management experience preferred.
  • Licensed as Certified Pharmacy Technician by the Virginia Department of Health Professions required.
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for communication with accounting, wholesaler, vendors and any other impacted departments with the organization.
  • Ensure adequate inventory of drugs in accordance with ROQ and ROP parameters.
  • Determine the plan for the storage of all inventory products using frequency specifications and replacement calculations to determine fill rate/par levels for Pyxis.
  • Conducts daily inventory analysis to solve inventory issues quickly such as locating product so it is available for distribution.
  • Direct the returns to vendors to ensure that product is credited in a timely manner.
  • Ensure expired medications are removed from inventory and are properly stored for disposal.
  • Monitor the expired medication inventory for systemic adjustment in inventory procurement of identified products with declined usage.
  • Maintain and track credits for expired medication returns.
  • Contact direct order companies and/or their representatives to place orders, obtain information, follow-up on invoices/credits, status of orders, availabilities, contracts, etc.
  • Maintain purchase order files to provide access to purchasing history information.
  • Manages all non-formulary purchases and/or procure drugs from the appropriate source when requested.
  • Remove from inventory and return recall medications to the appropriate source as well as maintain the recall notices on file.
  • Reconcile the borrow and loan book on a monthly basis.
  • Maintains a minimum inventory turnover rate of 10 (annual drugs billable/annual inventory).
  • Comply with all duties and responsibilities of a Certified Pharmacy Technician (see Certified Technician job description).
  • Implement processes and procedures for inventory control within the department.
  • Ability to use quantitative reporting tools from various information systems to monitor and measure the effectiveness of inventory management levels.
  • Identify and implement cost reductions, service improvements and productivity improvements in the areas of inventory management and Pyxis.
  • Provides feedback on inventory issues, and involved in corrective action plans to enhance inventory management policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the integrity of the Pyxis inventory in patient care areas by auditing transactions.
