Department: Lab - Phlebotomy
Position is located: Riverside
Work Type: Part Time
FTE: 0.45 (18 hours per week)
Work Schedule: Sunday and Tuesday, 12:30 PM to 10 PM.
Summary:
Procures laboratory specimens in an acute care hospital for both in-patient and out-patient clients. Follows established protocols for specimen procurement including safety, patient and test identification, transport of specimens and meeting departmental procurement standards. Must meet specific competency guidelines annually. Provides excellent customer service.
Responsibilities:
Participates in competency assessment/continuing education activities.

Adheres to the CLIAA’** regulations as interpreted by the Medical Director for performance and proficiency testing.
Runs and evaluates QC per protocol.
Completes mandatory training, reads, and all required policy/procedure books yearly.
Performs competency testing as administered; receives satisfactory rating.
Attains a minimum of 8 CE’s annually; in 2 of the 4 Continuing Education categories.
Participates in QI activities—collects data, identifies issues, and participates in resolutions.
Procurement of specimens from all age groups inclduing advanced procedures.
Able to perform specimen procurement accurately. (minimum of adults, adults>60 yrs. and teens)
Always identifies patient and labels specimen according to established protocols.
Observes established safety procedures and demonstrates universal precautions.
Performs computer and clerical functions.
Displays complete knowledge of amounts and types of blood and urine samples to collect and the proper conditions and circumstances for collection.
Demonstrates knowledge of infection control and age specific safety practices.
Follows procedure for identifying specimen completing paperwork, and transporting to Client Service Department to assure specimen integrity.
Uses resources to verify type and quantity of specimen if the request is known.
Participates in special Phlebotomy functions/projects.
Volunteers for projects.
Acts as a resource for less senior staff
