Position Overview

The Correctional ID Technician position located at the Northern Reception & Classification Center (“NRC”) fingerprints and photographs incarcerated individuals at the reception center and county jails in the northern region of Illinois. The NRC is the largest reception and classification center within the Illinois Department of Corrections and processes a majority of admissions into the Department. The NRC consists of over 1800 beds and 24 housing units and is conveniently located near Stateville Correctional Center.


Job Responsibilities

  • Fingerprint and photograph individuals in custody located at both the institution and county jails.
  • Keyboards information on fingerprint cards and reports, description of photographs.
  • Maintains identification records.
  • Instructs individuals in custody assigned to Bureau of Identification unit.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high
school.


Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  • Prefers at least six (6) months of experience applying modern methods and procedures used in fingerprint classification and identification work.
  • Prefers at least six (6) months of experience working in a correctional setting.
  • Prefers at least six (6) months of experience utilizing photographic techniques.
  • Prefers at least six (6) months of experience recording and classifying legible fingerprints impressions.
  • Prefers at least six (6) months of experience comparing fingerprints and identification data accurately.

Conditions of Employment

1. Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel.
2. Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six months of employment.
3. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
4. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act
made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois.
Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the
Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including
cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
