JOB SUMMARY*
This is an exciting opportunity with the Community Development Department, Planning Division of the City of Dania Beach. We are currently seeking qualified candidates for a Planning Associate Position. The ideal individual will be responsible for handling routine administrative and process-related tasks. This position also requires working closely with the public on a regular basis to perform professional-level duties of moderate complexity. This position will expose you to a variety of experiences and is a wonderful growth opportunity in a city currently experiencing a renaissance.
Duties & Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Provides support to all members of the department.
- Assists staff in collecting and preparing data for various planning projects.
- Manages a full meeting calendar, creates and mails committee meeting packages.
- Conducts field work, collects parcel data, and searches land records.
- Produces sketches and renderings of limited or variable complexity.
- Provides technical assistance and information to staff and the public in the administration of specific planning program areas or ordinances.
- Reviews building plans and zoning permit applications to ensure compliance.
- Reviews development applications for completeness and conformity to Land Development Regulations.
- Performs routine office tasks in designated program areas, including data entry, file management, copying, answering telephones, responding to e-mails, and customer services.
- Prepares narrative staff reports and recommendations of limited complexity, such as special use permits and variances.
- Researches and compiles information on a variety of planning issues from multiple sources.
- Assists in the preparation of public notices or property owners' verifications.
- Prepares maps, charts, tables of information, and databases utilizing GIS.
- Investigates violations of planning regulations and ordinances, including site visits.
- Attends public meetings, assisting other planning staff as appropriate.
Qualifications
What's required:* (Minimum Requirements)*

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Urban Planning or related field. The related field includes Planning, Administration, Social Sciences, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, or at least one (1) year of experience working in a Planning or Zoning Office. (Additional planning experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the educational requirement).
- Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license with an overall good driving record is required. If driver’s license is out of state, must be able to obtain a Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days of the hire date.
What's preferred: (Desired Requirements)
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or related field. The related field includes Planning Administration, Social Sciences, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban Design.
- One (1) year of previous work experience in Urban Planning, Planning Administration, Social Sciences, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design
