The Full salary range for this position is $21.77 - $34.01

The Aurora Police Department is looking for an efficient, customer service driven individual who will be responsible for collecting, storing, and disseminating criminal information and reports to Police personnel and the public.

The Aurora Police Department
The Aurora Police Department is responsible for providing law enforcement services to a growing, urban/suburban community with unique and ever-changing needs. We strongly believe that the challenges facing the police department can only be addressed effectively by connecting with community leaders, school administrators, members of the business community, non-profit organizations, other government agencies, neighborhood groups and most importantly, individual residents. The Police Records Division is a 24/7 operation with Public Safety Records staff working one of the following shifts: Day, Swing, and Graveyard. There is a bidding process once a year to determine the work schedule for the following year.

Despite the changes in Colorado law, the City of Aurora maintains a drug free workplace. A positive test of marijuana is grounds for disqualification and ineligibility for employment with the city for one year or termination once hired.

To be employed by the Aurora Police Department you will need to successfully pass a background check, polygraph test, and fingerprint screening, along with other conditions of employment; drug test and verification of employment. PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares and monitors computer generated reports
  • Tracks, distributes, files and scan documents
  • Responds to and prepares information responsive to requests for criminal justice records
  • Works extensively with Law Enforcement personnel both internally and from other jurisdictions
  • Maintains complex record keeping and reporting systems
  • Researches and solves report, record and identification problems
  • Gathers, checks, compiles and prepares a variety of information for administrative and statistical reports
  • Follows record dissemination laws, policies and procedures
  • Operates a variety of office machines
  • Maintains, modifies and updates multiple data bases in local, State and National computer systems
  • Composes and switches messages to law enforcement
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED. Selected candidate will be required to submit proof, in the form of official transcripts of the highest level of educations attained by the applicant that is indicated on the application and/or resume prior to date of hire
Experience:
  • 2 years of general clerical experience including data entry and customer service experience
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience working in a judicial or law enforcement environment
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • CCIC/NCIC certification preferred
  • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures; business English
  • Manual and computer filing systems
  • Complex record keeping systems; Word, Windows.
Abilities to:
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and community members
  • Handle stressful situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Perform complex data entry activities
  • Memorize and retain updated process, complete tasks that are important but infrequent and highly technical in nature
  • Think critically to navigate technical tasks and use resources when unsure and/or Tech Lead or Supervisor is not available
  • Use judgement to ensure confidential information remains protected
Skills:
  • Skill in passing a CritiCall Exam, that measures skills in 10 different competencies which include: Data entry, sentence clarity, and multi-tasking.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Essential Personnel:

  • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Shifts and Schedules:
  • Shift work - days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • A variety of schedule locations are available - in office, remote, or hybrid
  • A variety of schdule lenghts are available - 5 (five) 8 hour shifts; Flex 9 hour shifts; 4 (four) 10 hour shifts
  • Please note that the Records Unit cannot guarantee shifts, locations, or scheudule lenghts, and all factors are bid annually based on seniority
Physical Demands:
  • Light to sedentary physical work requiring the ability to lift 40 pounds with or without assistance
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, walking and standing
  • Hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard
  • Vision to read and interpret reports, documents and other written information
  • Frequent speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens
Work Environment:
  • Works primarily in clean, comfortable environment with shared work stations and equipment
  • Shift work to include days, nights, working weekends and holidays
Equipment Used:
  • Frequently uses computer keyboard and telephone, fax machines, copiers and microfilm equipment
  • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
