Job description
President of Oneida County Tourism
Oneida County, NY
The Getaway Region
Whether you're looking for entertainment, sports, or outdoor activities, Oneida County has it all! There's something for everyone, from historic sites, museums, and attractions to lakes, gardens, and zoos. Take in a show, or try your luck at the casino. With so many options to choose from, Oneida County is sure to keep you entertained and excited.
EXPLORE THE AREA
North Country
Located in the foothills of the Adirondacks, this area offers breathtaking natural beauty that is convenient to reach—longing to be immersed in the great outdoors? You can access extensive leisure opportunities in the North Country's lakes, streams, hills, and forests here—fish for trophy brown trout in the crystal clear West Canada Creek. Walk, bike, and cross-country ski the Trenton Greenbelt Trails, white-water kayak Fish Creek, and paddle or water ski on Hinckley Reservoir.
Rome
Adults and children alike will enjoy the various activities in this historic city, home to two National Parks. Rome's history began with the building of a fortified trading post on one of the most important North American transportation routes, the Oneida Carry. Located in Haudenosaunee territory, Fort Stanwix was erected in 1758 to protect traders during the French and Indian War and hosted the Continental Army during the Revolution.
Southern Hills
Step out of the daily hustle and bustle and get away to the quaint and inviting Southern Hills of Oneida County. Slow your pace, make the drive, and find contentment in these aesthetically pleasing New England-inspired villages with vintage rural character.
Sylvan Beach/Verona
Enjoy lazy days of swimming in Oneida Lake, two miles of sandy beaches for building sandcastles, and sunbathing at Sylvan Beach and Verona Beach State Park. This quintessential beachfront community has been preserved in time. Reconnect as families and friends have done for generations at Sylvan Beach. Escape to your favorite waterfront cottage or tent or park your RV at one of the many local campgrounds; fish for walleye, bass, perch, and other freshwater treasures. Pick up a beach volleyball game, motorboat, sail, kayak, ski, picnic, or just chill.
Utica
Settled during the French and Indian War as old Fort Schuyler, the Utica of yesterday is evident throughout its extraordinary landmarks and original architecture. Today's Utica is a vibrant mix of cultures that creates a community bustling with an international flair that's ever present in the arts and culture scene. Utica is the “biggest little city" in so many ways. Multi-cultural events and diversity keep this ever-changing city progressing forward. Craft beer connoisseurs and history-seekers alike can tour the F.X. Matt Brewing Company, one of the oldest family-owned breweries in the nation.
