45%- this is the number of deaths attributable to fibrotic disorders worldwide across all organs and are the result of dysregulation of the extracelluar matrix in response to acute and chronic injury. We are building a dedicated research group within Disease Area X focused on delineating the key factors/pathways involved in fibrotic diseases and developing transformative new therapies for patients. The successful candidate will join a team working to discover and progress the next wave of new therapeutics that will halt fibrotic diseases across multiple organs.

We seek candidates who have backgrounds in progressing drug discovery projects from target concept and validation, to discovery and optimization of novel therapeutic modalities, and delivering drug candidates for pre-clinical studies. A track record of hands-on mentorship and development of other scientists is essential to success in the role. Other key skills include a proven ability to formulate and implement project strategy in collaboration with stakeholders, to lead decision-making for project teams, to design and plan experiments in collaboration with bench scientists, and to build effective teams directed towards solving complex scientific problems.

The successful candidate will lead and mentor multiple scientists, work collaboratively across DAx, other NIBR Disease areas and Functional areas, establish external partnerships (academic and biotech), and interact with a global network of researchers working towards the understanding and discovery of novel therapeutics that address fibrosis across multiple organs.

Key responsibilities:

  • Formulate novel approaches to targeting fibrosis across multiple organ types
  • Lead multi-disciplinary project team to decision milestones
  • Line management responsibility for several research scientists

Minimum requirements

What You'll Bring to the Role:

  • Ph.D, MD/Ph.D, or equivalent training
  • Postdoctoral experience with at least 3 years of experience in industry or equivalent
  • Experience in various phases of drug discovery including target identification and validation, designing fit-for-purpose drug discovery flow charts comprising cell and biochemical assays, and the ability to enable deep mechanistic and pharmacological characterization of lead candidates
  • Team orientated and collaborative work ethic
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and empower others including development of early career scientists
  • Demonstrated, successful leadership of project teams

Desirable Skills:

  • Expertise in cellular biology, immunology/autoimmunity, fibrosis biology and/or drug discovery
  • Experience in single cell approaches to target / pathway identification
  • Experience integrating patient data to delineate and validate key drivers of disease
  • Demonstrated expertise in diverse molecular and cellular techniques for target and drug discovery (flow cytometry, gene editing, complex cell-based models, etc.)

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $107,200 and $177,600 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
