Agency: United States Citizenship and Immigration Services

Place of Performance: Occupational Health Center (Camp Springs, MD)

Hours of Operation: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday (Work eight hours per day with a one-hour lunch break)

Core Duties:

  • Provide emergency medical response for life-threatening conditions which may require basic life support, the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), or administration of emergency medications while awaiting the arrival of local Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
  • Provide convenient onsite care for minor illness and injury to minimize unnecessary absences that may otherwise result in basic preventive health services and education to allow workers to maintain or improve their health to prevent the development or progression of chronic disease.

Performance Requirement Summary:

  • Walk-in care for minor illnesses and injury that may be work or non-work related
  • Routine adult immunizations according to the guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC): including Tetanus-diphtheria (Td), Tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis (Tdap), Influenza, and pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccines
  • Destination specific travel information from the CDC to include RN consultation for questions about the information provided
  • Care prescribed by an employee’s personal physician including administration of medications, administration of allergy immunotherapy, blood pressure and glucose (blood sugar) monitoring, wound care, and periodic bedrest
  • Health screenings including vision, blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, and other risk factors for heart disease
  • Management of designated lactation space located within the clinic space to include regular cleaning of the room and any agency provided equipment
  • Participate in annual Wellness Expo and Benefits Fairs
  • Provide monthly one-hour health and wellness trainings either in person or a combination of in-person and virtual on topics related to the prevention of lifestyle illness, wellness and preventative services in consultation with the USCIS Program Manager (PM)
  • Clinic staff participation in occupant emergency planning

Requirements:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an occupational medical program
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health Program medical examinations for pre-employment, fitness for duty, medical surveillance, special duty certification, job certification requirements, and more.
  • Ability to perform/develop necessary skills to conduct vision screenings, audiograms and spirometry, and ability to recognized evidence of possible occupational illness or injury.
  • Administer medicine/treatments authorized by physician/physician assistant for work and non-work-related injuries and illnesses with appropriate consultation and referral.
  • Follow up on occupationally related medical illnesses, injuries, accident and incident reports involving employees and other conditions adversely impacting an employee’s medical status.
  • Recognize more insidious health effects frequently produced from long-term (chronic) exposure to toxic chemicals or harmful physical agents and plan screening tests to identify medical changes before disease occurs.
  • Develop, coordinate, update, and implement health education on an individual or group basis through counseling, lectures/group dynamics.
  • Conduct individual/group counseling and health education programs to employees; prepare and provide handout materials, teach and ensure safe working practices, provide guidance in promoting preventive medicine.
  • Annual program review to assist management in identifying basic safety, health and wellness opportunities
  • Provide an operational guideline to outline Wellness Center operational overview

Pay: $40.00 - $48.00 per hour

Experience:

  • Emergency Room: 3 years (Preferred)
  • Occupational Health: 2 years (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • BLS Certification (Required)
