Position Overview:
The Process Engineer is responsible for supporting Gopher Resource’s manufacturing through process monitoring, troubleshooting, and process improvement using engineering and scientific methodology. This role reports to the Process Engineering Manager.

- Be the process owner and subject matter expert to support the operations and maintenance decision making process for assigned areas.
- Prioritize and drive sustainable continuous improvement through process monitoring, economic analysis, and risk vs. value assessment.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate across organizational boundaries.
- Consistent floor presences engaging the teams working the process modeling our values daily around safety, trust and excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Leverage a deep technical understanding of the process to support the department operations and maintenance teams.
- Develop, monitor and maintain appropriate KPIs and operational process limits.
- Coordinate with Operations personnel in OEE “lost tons” data capture and Pareto analysis.
- Conduct base process monitoring through data collection and analysis to identify and mitigate threats to the process health and to identify potential process improvements.
- Troubleshoot process problems that arise.
- Ideate, develop, and implement process improvements to continuously improve the process efficiency, safety, and environmental performance.
- Serve as the process technology expert on cross functional capital project teams. support the early concept/design phase of capital projects with PFD and P&ID development for new processes or revisions for modified processes.
- Responsible for generating and maintaining Material and Energy balances for the plant and unit operations
- Manage changes through a defined Management of Change process – often leading the change review and documentation process, always reviewing proposed changes by others to ensure appropriate technical, safety, operational and maintainability are considered.
- Leadership of the RCA process for all Level 2 & 3 Production Upset incidents for high-value assets as assigned
- Directly involved in the design and installation stages of projects for new assets and modification of existing assets
- Develop, document, maintain, and standardize production floor processes and procedures.
- Develop training for new and existing processes technology and deliver training as needed
- Advance the total safety and environmental culture. Model a high standard of environmental, health, and safety behaviors and compliance.
- Coordinate with R&D personnel to seamlessly incorporate new process developments into plant operations.
- Ensure that plant operating conditions and recommendations are aligned with and support broader quality requirements and improvement goals.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited College or University.
- 3+ years previous engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong data analysis and failure cause analysis aptitudes.
- Proven leadership skills to champion change in a highly dynamic environment, promote a positive team atmosphere, and sustain a continuous improvement culture.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to both lead and participate in functional and cross-functional teams. Able to resolve conflict effectively.
- Good written and verbal communication skills. Able to present data, facts, hypotheses, findings and recommendations effectively in small and large groups.
- Strong track record of delivering business results through time management, action planning, prioritization of tasks, attention to details, and meeting deadlines.
- Highly self-motivated and directed, ability to work well under pressure, with an appropriate sense of urgency.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in specifically Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering strongly preferred, but not required.
- Experience working as a process engineer in the mining or secondary metals industry preferred, but not required.
- Understanding of slag chemistry, mineralogy, and morphology preferred, but not required.
- Experience in hydrometallurgical water treatment processes preferred, but not required.
- Understanding of pollution control systems, acid mist scrubbers and caustic scrubbers preferred, but not required.
- Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt Certification preferred, but not required.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD (Inventor or similar product e.g. SolidWorks, Pro-E) preferred, but not required.
