SLG Procurement Specialist

Key Accountabilities:


  • Negotiate, implement, and manage strategic contracts to ensure optimum cost and reliable supply.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, better efficiency and other areas of improvement; recommend and implement policy or process changes as appropriate.
  • Deploy supply risk assessment and mitigation programs to ensure business continuity.
  • Develop and implement processes to streamline price quotation requests, sourcing requests from new suppliers or new vendors, and sample requests efficiently.
  • Manage operational issues related to supply challenges.
  • Act as the Procurement representative in dealing with key internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Collaborate with Business Unit’s leadership and functional partners on strategy development, innovation, continuous improvement plans.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers driving optimized value.


Required Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Strongly preferred: 5+ years in shipping/logistics/supply chain management industry.
  • Strongly preferred: 3+ years in transportation pricing and/or procurement - preferably domestic and ocean.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Analytical skills; ability to understand complicated concepts and use systems and data to solve and prevent problems.
  • Compelling, tactful negotiation and ability to create mutual wins.
  • Ability to persuade and lead. Ability to recognize and cultivate talent and develop high-potential employees into high-performing employees.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Advanced-level Excel knowledge.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Physical ability to: communicate clearly and accurately, operate a computer and other office equipment.

Responsibilities also include:

  • Source and qualify carriers to move freight in a timely and cost-effective manner while cultivating strong core carrier relationships
  • Negotiate best rates with carriers to get the most cost- and operationally-efficient transport lanes
  • Serve as the primary contact for transportation inquiries for carriers and internal teams
  • Maintain and update accurate information in company systems
  • Monitor carrier invoicing and ensure that carrier charges are accurate
  • Organize and manage Requests for Quotes (RFQs) on demand and seasonally

  • Qlik Reporting
  • PowerBI
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
