The Lead Hand is a key resource assigned to assist the Supervisor with managing day to day activities within the work center or manufacturing cell. The Lead Hand is responsible for ensuring the daily production schedule is executed in accordance with the plan while achieving desired quantity, quality, efficiency and utilization objectives. Key activities include the assignment and coordination of production activities, motivating and coaching staff, resolution of interpersonal conflict and enforcement of policy and procedure. Disciplinary problems should be communicated to the Supervisor for appropriate action to be taken.

Responsibilities

• The key focus of this position is to ensure the effective utilization of resources for the work group to which the Lead Hand is assigned
• Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, and Morale with the group assigned
• Coordinating daily priorities with Supervisors, Planners and Material Handlers
• Planning manpower and vacation scheduling in communication with the Supervisor
• Planning, organizing and distributing workload based on daily production requirements and managing absenteeism
• Ensuring daily production targets and customer delivery requirements are met
• Coordinating training, cross training, and ensuring employees are qualifies to perform assigned tasks and identify deficiencies in training to the Supervisor
• Ensuring parts and materials are supplied to the manufacturing process and point of use inventory is managed using Company procedures and processes
• Managing process start up and control and confirming quality using defined inspection methods
• Ensuring operator daily machine maintenance is done and coordinate machine maintenance
• Leading small continuous improvements and participating in larger continuous improvement projects
• Ensure standardized work is followed
• Resolving production and quality problems working with the appropriate department and bringing them to attention of the Supervisor
• Ensure all necessary logs, forms, and other documentation are filled in consistently, correctly, and accurately
• Effectively manage the shop clean-up time allocated to the are to ensure that the shop clean–up objectives are property met and the area is set-up for the next shift.
• Coordinate the transition between shifts; ensuring necessary information is communicated between shifts
• Motivate employees through involvement, communication, and positive reinforcement
• Manage conflict, interpersonal issues and behavioral problems within assigned resources. Bring employee problems to the attention of the Supervisor, if required
• Enforce all company policy and procedures. Ensure employees are using required Personal Protective Equipment and following safe work procedures

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required
• Proven work experience as Production Lead or similar role
• Working knowledge of various types of manufacturing machinery and tools
• Experience in reporting on key production metrics
• Strong decision-making skills and a results-driven approach
• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel
• Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong work ethic—self-motivated and results-driven
• Able to sit, walk, move around for long hours at a time

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $21.50 per hour
