Title: Production Manager

General description of the job:

The Production Manager is responsible for all production and operation activity at the Eastover, SC sodium chlorate plant. This position oversees the accomplishment of assigned work through subordinate supervisors or by direct supervision in a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week chemical manufacturing plant. Ensures safety, regulatory and schedule compliance; cost containment, training and employee development.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Ensure that the safety of our employees and protection of our vital assets is the number one priority within daily activity of the production department.
• Manage all processes, equipment, employees, safety, and housekeeping activities of the area and meet production quality and quantity standards
• Ensures constructive and accurate interface of operation with IT business system (SAP)
• Plan, schedule, and direct production work for efficient operations
• Develop departmental goals and objectives that provide direction in order to maintain a competitive organization and meet overall business objectives
• Ensure company safety and environmental standards are met
• Ensure company quality standards in production are met
• Ensure all established policies, rules and regulations, and procedures are followed
• Ensure all personnel are trained appropriately for new and existing systems
• Ensure ongoing skills development of personnel. Encourage all personnel to maximize their individual potential to achieve and contribute within their areas of responsibility and influence.
• Ensure distribution of plant status reports as appropriate to the plant and business needs and as assigned by the Plant Manager
• Direct activities associated with troubleshooting process. Develop troubleshooting skills of subordinate personnel and delegate appropriately.
• Work to reduce costs through improving product quality and lowering operating and supply costs
• Assist Plant Manager, Maintenance Manager and other staff in coordination of capital projects
• Interface at the appropriate level with logistics and sales personnel to the extent such interaction aids to smooth operation of the plant and satisfies the plants responsibility to the end customer
• Manage all aspects of leased railcar fleet including maintenance, inspections, etc.
• Manage plant quality assurance lab for both process control and product quality
• Accept other roles and responsibilities as assigned by the Plant Manager

Working Experience and Education:

• Four year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry or related technical field with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a chemical manufacturing operation with a working knowledge of plant process flows and operations
• Desired: minimum 3 years’ supervisory experience in a manufacturing operation

Competencies and Skills Required:

• Strong knowledge of basic chemical reactions utilized in the manufacturing process
• Requires overall knowledge of chemical processing equipment, plant processes, environmental guidelines, and state, federal and local employment law
• Strong working knowledge of manufacturing principles, material compatibility, logistics and engineering
• Ability to plan and execute in a production environment
• High degree of attention to safety and accident prevention
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to lead others in a fast-paced, high stress environment
• Must be able to respond appropriately and immediately to disaster/emergency situations
• High level computer skills- Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP, Internet (i.e. SharePoint)
• Experience utilizing fully integrated business system, such as SAP or similar business system
