Program Assistant

  • Data entry, analysis, and reconciliation using AIDS Institute Reporting System (AIRS), Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and other platforms as necessary;
  • Coordinate and schedule patient appointments for buprenorphine and hepatitis C treatment;
  • Provide on-going support for patients, including referral to external health and/or treatment services as needed;
  • Scan, copy, and file administrative and programmatic documents;
  • Inventory and order supplies as necessary;
  • Ensure functioning of office infrastructure and coordinate service calls and deliveries;
  • Provide support for 24-hour phone line;
  • Schedule and provide Overdose Prevention and Harm Reduction training;
  • Enroll new participants and provide syringe exchange services throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties;
  • Present and discuss harm reduction information (including safer injection techniques, overdose prevention, and vein care) with people who inject drug (PWID) in field-based locations;
  • Peer Supervision: Meet with Peer Inventory Specialists to review paperwork and collect supplies, and make arrangements to address training and other professional development needs; and
  • Other duties as assigned by Deputy Director

Minimum Requirements:

  • Organized and detail-oriented;
  • Experience in data entry and analysis;
  • Experience working with and advocating for people who use drugs;
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles and ability to relate to people using drugs respectfully and without judgment;
  • Current NYS driver’s license in good standing and vehicle required;
  • Some evenings, weekends, and holiday hours required.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in public health, public administration, law, or relevant social science desirable;
  • Bilingual desirable
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, buprenorphine, Naloxone, and Hepatitis C highly desirable;
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills;
  • Respect for, and awareness of, people of various ethnicities, races, cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations and identities, and socioeconomic conditions required.

Location: Hauppauge, and various locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties

Organizational Relationships: Reports to Director of Programs

Compensation: $38,000 annual salary (f/t), plus full benefits (health, dental, vision, life insurance; and 403b)
