Tell me about this job!
Directs and oversees Youth and Family programs, which includes, but is not limited to youth sports and wellness, recreation and enrichment, Kids Club/Kids Zone, family activities, and teen programs. This position will lead and develop a dynamic team of youth development professionals, playing a key role in ensuring planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate activities and lesson plans are provided to participants. You will lead a safe, high-quality youth and family department and supervise and evaluate staff and volunteers, including hiring and training, maintaining required staff/child ratios and conducting regular staff meetings. This role plays an important part of helping maintain professional relationships with families, facility personnel, and the community.

This is a full time role based out of the Kent YMCA.
Full Time, typically 9-5 am shifts but may need to adjust depending on need during hours of operation for all days of the week. Travel to other sites may be required for trainings, but this role is based out of the Kent Branch (10828 SE 248th St, Kent, WA 98030).

Hiring Range for this role is $58,384.00 - $72,480.00.

Responsibilities:
What you'll be doing
  • Directs and manages the development, operations, and growth of assigned program areas.
  • Develops and manages the budgets related to the position. Meets fiscal objectives. Closely monitors revenue and expense.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises assigned staff and volunteers in assigned areas
  • Compiles program statistics and provides data and reports as required for assigned programs. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
  • Provides leadership and support for branch management team, annual fundraising campaign, and volunteer committees as assigned.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.
  • Distributes program information necessary to promote assigned programs in accordance with branch marketing plans.
  • Ensures that safety procedures are followed and that all programs are in compliance with YMCA best practices and any other applicable standards.
  • Ensures high quality programs through program development evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
  • Ensures upkeep of related facilities and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Qualifications:
What we're looking for in an applicant
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Five or more years of experience working with children.
  • One year or more of supervisory experience.
  • Strong customer service skills, responding to multiple questions via phone, email and in person. Ability to problem solve and resolve conflict.
  • Strong computer skills and experience working with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment, such as fax machines, copiers and phone systems.
  • Current state approved first-aid certification*
  • Current state approved infant/child (or community if school aged) CPR certification*
  • At hire, or earliest possible training (but no later than 90 days after employment).

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • College degree. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
