About the Position

  • The Project Engineer has the primary responsibility for execution of Downstream Capital Projects from front end development (Assess, Select & Define phases) to detailed design and construction (Execute phase) including procurement, cost control and schedule management.
  • Accountable for delivering projects safely
  • Manages 8 to 10 simultaneous projects with competing priorities in various execution phases on a wide variety of manufacturing processes in the refining and chemical complex.
  • Develops project scopes in collaboration with operations, process engineering and discipline representatives.
  • Facilitates project meetings to develop and review project scope, design criteria and discipline drawings.
  • Oversees engineering execution utilizing either on-site design staff or local Engineering companies.
  • Drives the approval by the appropriate technical authority of equipment specification and drawings.
  • Works with Project Controls department to develop project cost estimates and schedules for each phase and for final funding
  • Accountable for meeting project cost and schedule requirements
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills / Abilities

  • Role requires a current TWIC badge
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Education & Experience

  • BS in Engineering, Mechanical or Chemical preferred, will consider candidates with a BS in Construction Management
  • 5+ years of experience as a Project Engineer/ Project Manager
  • Capital Project experience in a Refinery or Chemical manufacturing complex required
  • Control Systems/Instrumentation project execution a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer with field work in plant as required.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs when needed.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). This includes hardhat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other equipment as required.
