Job Summary
The Project Estimator prepares timely and accurate bid estimates for projects/programs within MasTec Utility Services non-union business. This position plans all projects within expectations for efficient use of personnel, equipment, materials, and subcontractors in adherence with contract requirements, time guidelines and other restrictions. This role is part of a team working closely with Operations personnel and business unit leadership. This position will be based remote in a work from home, or work offsite, environment. This position is FULLY REMOTE!
Responsibilities:
  • Fully responsible for the preparation of accurate and complete bid estimates, travel to job locations to confirm project site conditions as may be required, support bid and pricing strategy, customer presentations, and management of B2W estimating tool.
  • Working closely with proposal support team, ensures bid deadlines and customer presentation requirements are met. Proactively identify and suggest solutions for known or anticipated construction problems to minimize cost and reduce risk.
  • Coordinates with subcontractors the necessary requirements to obtain bid compliant pricing and overall coordination through the bidding process.
  • Develops substantive assumptions and clarifications, in conjunction with leadership, to support accuracy of bids.
  • Establishes appropriate risk register to ensure appropriate contingency is established based on bid complexity, geography, and other factors.
  • Post award supports Ops personnel as may be required in developing and/or recommending change orders and other cost related activities.
  • Complies with bid process and participates in go/no go, bid reviews, and post-award turnover meetings.
  • Individual contributor with responsibilities for providing guidance in larger initiatives and coordinating internal processes. May manage or provide technical guidance and coaching to less experienced personnel.
  • Interface with various internal and external stakeholders on planning and scheduling related items and functions including reporting requirements, progress reporting, complaint schedules, etc.
  • Communicate with influence to client group and team members; present effectively.
  • May be responsible for managing additional resources assigned to an initiative/project, dependent on scope. Includes training, mentoring, and assignment of work.
  • Aids in ensuring that team goals, roles, protocols, and business relationships are consistent with high-performance requirements and congruent with the company's strategy. Leads by example in an environment that fosters trust and candor, maintains personal accountability, and communicates assertively and constructively.
  • Fully understands major business components and implications relating to estimating and cost control within the business.
  • Ensures compliance with the MasTec established Project Management Methodology and upholds safety and quality management protocols.
Qualifications:
Minimum
  • 5 years’ experience in estimating mid-scale projects and working knowledge of construction and utility industry practices.
  • Experience with computerized bidding software and proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to obtain PMM certification.
  • BS degree in Project Management, Engineering, or Construction related field; or equivalent work experience.
Preferred
  • 2 or more years of experience.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and scanners.
