Newport News Nuclear BWXT Los Alamos (N3B) manages the 10-year, $1.6 billion Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract for the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Environmental Management, Los Alamos Field Office.

Position Location:
This position is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Position Summary
N3B is seeking a Project Manager with excellent communication skills, a professional manner, and multi-tasking ability to join N3B’s Water Program Oversight team. The successful candidate will be a forward thinking professional with ability to interact with senior managers and subject matter experts on a variety of technical and programmatic issues. The role requires interpretation of environmental and chemical data and development of optimized recommendations that facilitate site completion and complies with environmental, health and safety regulations and/or company policies.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
Lead the planning and execution of water program environmental compliance and remediation efforts. This includes, but is not limited to, development of technical and programmatic strategies, integrated project planning, work scheduling and sequencing, risk analysis and risk management, and general project execution.
- Work through integrated project teams including the regulatory support organization to identify and implement the appropriate path to achieve regulatory closure of each site. Support environmental project reviews.
- Provide technical leadership and expertise specifically in the subject matters related to Water Program regulatory compliance, sampling and remediation.
- Develop and propose DOE and regulatory deliverables for assigned projects.
- Develop scopes of work and schedules for self-performed and subcontracted work.
- Prepare for and lead project meetings. Coordinate and support project meetings with DOE EM-LA, TRIAD, New Mexico Environment Department and stakeholders.
- Support development and review of project documents. Coordinate and conduct project Preparedness Reviews for both subcontracted and self-performed activities.
- Manage quality methodologies and utilize quality tools to help drive continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
- Knowledge and experience in either water, environmental, or engineering project management at a level where the decisions made will affect the success of the Program.
- Skill and ability to perform critical strategic tasks and to interpret broad strategic and technical requirements and develop and execute plans to satisfy them.
- Effective interpersonal skills (e.g., ability to lead a team, work as part of a team, communicate effectively, work/interact effectively and amicably with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures and with diverse personal attributes).
- Experience in leading/facilitating integrated project teams/meetings with clients and/or stakeholders to identify and implement the appropriate path to achieve regulatory closure of each site.
- Experience managing project scope, schedule, costs, and risks; including knowledge and experience in Earned Value Management Systems.
- Excellent technical leadership and expertise specifically in the subject matters related to environmental characterization and remediation.
- Excellent writing and planning ability to develop scopes of work, project documents, and schedules for self-performed and subcontracted work.
- Coordination and effective communication skills (i.e., ability to present ideas effectively in formal and informal situations and convey thoughts clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing).
- Strong organizational, time management, attention to detail and analytical skills, with the ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Proficient in MS Office to include MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering, Geology, Geochemistry/Hydrology, or other appropriate related technical discipline and at least 15 years of relevant extensive/expert experience.
However, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position’s duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.
Education Equivalency: 2 years of relevant experience for 1 year of college.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Normally assigned to perform work in an office environment. Only electrical hazards and other minor potential hazards normally found in an office environment are anticipated. Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the discipline. Office work environment.

While working to achieve N3B LLCC objectives, the Project Manager 5 will ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner to include protecting the confidentiality and integrity of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This role will maintain required safety, security and operational training; assure procedural and regulatory compliance; and make safety, security and quality an integral part of every task; including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security. Ability to obtain an L level Department of Energy security clearance.
