Psych Peer Specialist –Columbia University Irving Medical Center
The Psych Peer Specialist is an active member of the CPEP Team and provides peer support services to patients with serious mental illnesses. Under the supervision of the Social Workers, the Psych Peer Specialist will function as a role model to peers; exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serve as a consumer advocate, providing consumer information and peer support for CPEP patients; promotes community socialization, recovery, self-advocacy, self-help, and development of natural support. In this role, the Psych Peer Specialist will assist in the acceptance and triage of newly referred patients, accompany Mobile Crisis staff on field visits, and provide prompt assistance in responding to patient emergencies.
Preferred Criteria
- Previous experience working with multi-cultural and/or underserved communities
Required Criteria
- High school diploma or GED
- Certificate from state-approved peer specialist training program
- Current BCLS from American Heart Association
