The Senior Division specializes in providing a full continuum of older adult mental health outpatient programs and a range of aging services programs, including workforce development, economic security, case management, and advocacy. The Division is also very active with community partners, the development of new service areas and policy recommendations.

Program Description
Felton's Older Adult Service Team, based in Alameda County, offers specialized, multidisciplinary geriatric mental health services to our diverse community of older adults. Our comprehensive mental health services include medication assessment and management, care management, individual and group therapy, community integration, and specialized outreach in the community. The clinical team includes a psychiatric care provider, clinical case managers, case managers, and community specialists. We serve people living with severe mental illness throughout Alameda County, some who are and established with the Alameda County system of care and some who are newly connected with services.

Job Description
The Psychiatric Care Provider exercises medical responsibilities for psychiatric evaluation, medication assessment, and monitoring as an active member of the treatment team. The provider assists with crisis interventions, including 5150 evaluations, orders diagnostic tests, and communicates medical issues with Primary Care. Client caseload and clinical records are maintained in accordance with mandated standards. The provider consults and provides on-going education to nonmedical staff in psychopharmacology and medical aspects of patient care. The provider is part of the medical support team in the Senior Division, and collaborates with other medical support teams across the agency, where mutual support is provided, when needed.

Program Specific Responsibilities:
  • Exercises medical responsibilities for psychiatric evaluation, medication assessment, and medication monitoring
  • Orders diagnostic tests as needed
  • Works with an interdisciplinary team that includes a clinical case manager, case managers and peer/community specialists, and other allied health professionals in the community
  • Works in collaboration with the clinical team to provide therapy and education to clients, including but not limited to harm reduction, relapse prevention, and motivational interviewing
  • Works in collaboration with the clinical team to make appropriate referrals and linkages to other services in support of clients.
  • Coordinates medical issues with Primary Health Care providers and specialists
  • Maintains client caseload, as needed
  • Maintains clinical records in accordance with mandated standards
  • Consults and provides on-going education to non-medical staff in psychopharmacology and medical aspects of patient care
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Active license from the appropriate California Board.
  • Experience and interest in working with the older adult population
  • Additional experience working with children and TAY population a plus
  • Demonstrated commitment to the welfare of individuals and families with behavioral health issues
  • Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases and psychosis. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions and preventative healthcare measures
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders
  • Complex problem solving; identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Critical thinking skills; using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Social perceptiveness skills; being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Service oriented skills; actively looking for ways to help people
  • Demonstrated interest in ongoing learning and training
  • Ability to be a team collaborator with a welcoming, culturally-attuned philosophy of care
  • Valid California Driver’s license and car preferred
