UConn Health is searching for a Quality Assurance Specialist- Registered Nurse to join our team! This position is located in the department of Epidemiology

SCHEDULE
: Full time, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. (occasional weekend days and holidays) 30 minute unpaid meal break

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Establishes and maintains effective, up-to-date data management and filing systems for quality assurance records.

  • Designs, compiles designated reports to reflect unit based and department wide activities.

  • Chairs meetings.

  • Abstracts infection prevention concurrent to care and retrospectively for JCAHO/CMS

  • Abstracts and analyzes data to identify trends and issues and takes appropriate action.

  • Promulgates standards for unit quality assurance activities and reporting.

  • Provides clinically based concurrent and retrospective review of inpatient medical records to evaluate documentation for compliance with external and internal performance and quality measurement requirements.

  • Assesses effectiveness of plans and activities.

  • Makes recommendations for change.

  • Coordinates responses to regulatory agencies.

  • Interfaces with other disciplines to manage selected issues and develop efficient reporting systems to increase compliance with core measure.

  • Maintains awareness of current JCAHO and new trends in infection prevention.

  • Communicates with physicians to adherence to infection prevention protocols.

  • Serves as a consultant regarding infection prevention issues.

  • Educates staff and physicians to infection prevention measurement criteria.

  • Documentation and best practice goals.

  • Identifies opportunities for research and performance improvement indicated by infection prevention findings.

  • Participates in designing and/or conducting relevant research and infection prevention related performance.

  • Performs related duties as required.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED
:

Works under the general supervision of an employee of a higher grade


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIRED

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

  • Knowledge of infection prevention methods, trends and issues

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and current trends in the relevant infection prevention area.

  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply relevant State and Federal infection prevention and control professional association’s regulations.

  • Strong, interpersonal skills, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Ability to analyze, develop implement infection prevention

  • Proficient with data analysis, and use of Excel and Microsoft Word.


EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:


General Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing and four (4) years Registered Nurse experience.


SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED:

A Master's degree may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been gained through experience in Medical/Surgical Nursing.


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Critical care nursing experience


FULL TIME EQUIVALENT MINIMUM SALARY: $82,992
