Scott Bridge Company, Inc.'s roots date back to 1933 when Mr. I. J. Scott (Jud) and two partners formed Scott Construction Company in Thomasville, Georgia, constructing many highways, airports, bridges, and dams in the Southeast. Mr. Scott left this firm in 1957 and formed his own company, The Scott Company, in Opelika, Alabama, his home. The Scott Company incorporated in 1965 as Scott Bridge Company with I. J. Scott and his son, I. J. Scott, Jr. Also in 1965 Mr. Gerard Swarthout came to the company, became company president, and retired in 1987.
Scott Bridge Company has been a member of the Alabama Road Builders since 1947, and became known as a river bridge contractor, completing many projects on the Warrior, Alabama, Coosa, Tennessee, and Chattahoochee Rivers.
Currently Mr. I. J. Scott's grandsons, I. J. Scott, III (Ike), President, William Scott, Vice President and David Scott, Board Member, own and continue to further the principles and traditions of their father and grandfather before them.
Position Summary
Construction Quality Control Manager (CQCM) is responsible for managing and performing the daily QC responsibilities to ensure the project is constructed in accordance with the established contract standards. The CQCM role includes direct oversight and review of the entire documentation and physical inspection phase of the work flow process and working with other in-house personnel (e.g.: Project Managers, Superintendents, etc.) and external personnel to produce and document a quality product.
Responsibilities
Create, update, and maintain the project submittal log and all other project specific quality control reports
Chair and document weekly QC meetings with the superintendent and provide written minutes as described in project specific contract documents
Provide written daily QC reports that reinforce activities that are being constructed in conformance with project s established standard and constructively confronts non-conformances to produce the desired outcome in a timely manner.
Conduct preparatory, initial, and follow up meetings to establish an understanding of the standards of care desired for each definable feature of work. Verify that checklists are being used and signed off prior to the placement of concrete, steel, and other similar items of work
Verify and document that all materials received for the project are in conformance with the approved submittal, are handled and stored appropriately, and ae acceptable for use in the project
Conduct preconstruction meetings with new and existing subcontractors and the superintendent at least two days prior to the start of each new phase of the work to discuss issues that affect quality. Document these meetings in the daily QC report and Preparatory Phase reports
Conduct periodic follow up inspections to verify that work is proceeding with the contract documents and the approved submittals
Maintain the project as-built drawings on a daily basis
Stop work if necessary to resolve matters that affect safety, quality and/or inhibit the logical progress of work
Communicate with superiors and project personnel regarding QC policies and procedures
Ensure accuracy of project audit schedules, activity plans, and reports for internal and external users
Ensure that vendors and suppliers are meeting quality standards on the project
Requirements
Minimum of 5 - 10 years construction experience as Quality Control Manager or Combination of Project Engineer/QC Manager
Minimum 5 - 10 years experience in the construction industry with a general contractor engaged in general building construction or heavy civil construction
Experience on Southern Company Projects is preferred
Knowledge of pile driving and concrete construction
Knowledge of a wide range of construction materials, methods, and techniques
Combination of high school diploma with QC experience and certifications will be considered
Proficient with computer software used in the construction industry
Ability to speak clearly and exercise good judgment
Ability to work under pressure
Valid state driver s license
Must have strong computer skills in Microsoft Office
