Scope of Job
To provide routine incoming and outgoing mail and packages receiving services and duties to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of services in accordance with all applicable federal and university regulations. To receive, store, and deliver materials and equipment to all departments of the University to meet the needs and requirements of staff, faculty, and students.
Description of Duties
- Forklift experience or the ability to be certified within a year of hire.
- Must be able to lift packages or boxes up to 50 lbs. alone.
- Hire is subject to pre-employment physical exam.
- Logs all packages into the package tracking software.
- Help in the surplus area.
- Maintains a clean, neat, organized, and orderly warehouse and office environment that is always highly professional.
- Assists with processing all classes of mail for distribution including certified, registered, and insured mail.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

General supervision from assigned supervisor.
Supervision Given
Direct supervision of assigned staff.
Required Education
High school diploma or GED.

Licenses/Certifications
As condition of employment this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).
Required Experience
One (1) year related work experience. Must have a driver’s license for at least 3 years.

Equipment
Use of standard office equipment. Operates office and postal equipment to include postage meters, scales, addressing and bar-coded software and other related equipment. Knowledge of the University’s purchasing and shipping software or related software.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties.
Office/Warehouse Environment; some travel and weekend work is required (Saturdays).
UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Frequent exposure to varied environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures, lighting, dust, ventilation, non-air-conditioned work area. Some travel and weekend work are required. Exposure to outside work in all weather conditions. May work under pressure in order to meet deadlines and schedules. Requires considerable amount of stooping, bending, lifting, and carrying of heavy objects to perform duties. Requires moving, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of boxes and other objects weighing up to 50 pounds when working alone and 100 pounds with help. Must be able to push up to 1,300-pound mail containers with help. Must be able to bend, grip and pull. Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time.
