Job description

Position Purpose: Continually strive to maintain Lowell CHC standards as a representative of the internal and external community. As the Receptionist will be interfacing with all patients or customers, he/she will greet and welcome all patients as they either check in or out of the department. They will assist all BHS staff, ensuring a positive experience for all patients who are served within the department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties as Assigned.

  • Ability to welcome patients in a friendly and courteous manner
  • Maintain level of confidentiality and professionalism / HIPAA compliant
  • Computer literacy to complete assigned tasks
  • Monitor phone calls, voice mails and emails throughout the day, triage and send to appropriate staff in a timely manner
  • Arrange/Re-arrange clients / Schedule appts
  • When checking patients in, alert clinical staff (if indicated) to their arrival, per protocol
  • When checking patients out, assist in making next appts and triaging between other departments
  • Update demographic information as indicated
  • Order supplies and ensure that all BHS forms are replenished as indicated
  • Compose/type reports as indicated and send/receive faxes
  • Daily insurance verification required needed for clinicians to treat patients prior to their appts.
  • Update insurance info as indicated and maintain tracking sheet for authorizations, etc.
  • Assist with referral monitoring when necessary
  • Respond to client and clinician requests in a timely fashion
  • Enter EIM/ESM Paperwork, manage monthly MBHP data, and input BASIS 24/CANS
  • Understanding of patient population, and respond accordingly
  • Assist Admin/Clinical Manager and BHS Director in managing client flow when required
  • Will be cross-trained for other front desk duties
  • Other duties as required

Supervisory responsibilities:

  • This position does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities

Qualifications:

  • Ability to utilize computer and other office equipment
  • Recognizes needs and concerns of people
  • Have good communication (language skills, ability to effectively write and orally express information to patients and staff)

Education:

  • HS Diploma/GED
  • Some college or technical school training preferred
  • Experience with an EHR preferred

Language Skills:

  • Spanish strongly preferred

Experience:

  • Experience in office setting preferred, 1-2 years’ experience in health care setting
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, understanding the needs of the population we serve, including having cultural framework to interface effectively with patients
  • Works independently, is a self-starter, self-motivated and flexible
