Overview
Maintaining nearly 15,000 acres, the Orange County Parks and Recreation Division operates 109 parks, trails, boat ramps and facilities, including 14 recreation centers. In addition, our parks provide space for citizens, families, and visitors to enjoy and explore the beautiful outdoors, and to participate in activities ranging from camping, fishing, youth and adult sports, senior activities, youth enrichment programs, and picnics. Orange County Parks and Recreation also offers state-of-the-art fitness centers, as well as arts, culture and education programs, and a full calendar of year-round special events.
Representative Duties
Assists in the planning and operation of recreational activities sponsored by the Orange County Parks and Recreation Division.This is specialized work involving the planning and organizing of recreational activities and programs for youth, senior citizens and adults utilizing Orange County Parks and Recreation facilities. An employee assigned to this class of work is responsible for completing monthly schedules, to include after-school youth activities, classes, field trips, guest speakers, dances, games, etc. Also responsible for supervising and scheduling activities and plans for Recreation Leaders, casual labors and interns.
- Assists with classes or may conduct classes with program participants to include all age groups.
- Schedules field trips to include obtaining transportation and supervising trips.
- Plans, implements and supervises daily recreational programs.
- Trains, supervises and evaluates interns, casual laborers, recreation leaders and volunteers.
- Promotes all activities and programs through all forms of media.
- Assists with the maintenance of the building and occasionally with the maintenance of recreational facilities in the park.
- Collect fees and maintains records of moneys received.
- Maintains positive open communication between staff, parents and youth regarding their responsibilities.
- Maintains documentation regarding disciplinary actions.
- Plans and/or assists in special events programming.
- Conducts inventory and orders supplies.
- Supervises and/or conducts registration of classes.
- May represent the Parks and Recreation Division at designated meetings.
- Opens, closes and secures site.
- Writes and maintains monthly reports.
- Performs other related work as required
- Requires two years of post-secondary education and two years of experience in the Parks and Recreation field; or high school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in the Parks and Recreation field. Additional years of post-secondary education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Must be able to work nights and weekends.
- Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification within six months from date-of hire.
- Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s license.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires two years of post-secondary education and two years of experience in the Parks and Recreation field; or high school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in the Parks and Recreation field. Additional years of post-secondary education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Must be able to work nights and weekends.
- Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification within six months from date-of hire.
- Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s license.
