POSITION SUMMARY: The YMCA of Coastal Carolina is a dynamic and rapidly growing association that seeks to strengthen the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Membership Representative is responsible for providing excellent service to all members, guests, and program participants. They will respond to member and guest needs, promote memberships and programs, and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the lobby area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The YMCA Sports Official must have the competencies, skills and proven leadership ability to successfully carry out the YMCA mission, goals and vision for serving the community. Other important responsibilities include the following:

  • Officiate assigned YMCA sports events
  • Assist with pre and post-game setup and logistics
  • Assist with preparation and inspection of the game site
  • Maintain control in facilities being used at all times, monitor and respond to horseplay, and enforce all YMCA rules and policies
  • Keep current on all schedule changes
  • Provide positive member service, program promotion, and policy education to participants
  • Attend appropriate and required training classes offered by the YMCA of Coastal Carolina
  • Maintain safe program areas, including indoor and outdoor areas, YMCA and non-YMCA facilities, and equipment
  • Maintain a courteous, friendly attitude and be a positive role model
  • Promote the YMCA Story with all involved in the program
  • Must demonstrate courtesy and service to program participants and maintain a professional appearance
  • Follow YMCA policies and decision in a supportive manner. Follow accident reporting procedures and policies. Serve as a first responder to emergency situations
  • Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience officiating sports programs. Must be certified in officiating a specific sport(s) or have equivalent experience in a professional coaching or teaching environment is preferred
  • Must understand the basic principles of sports programs such as basketball, soccer, football, volleyball, and/or others as assigned Must understand the basic concepts of a non-profit organization, as well as the structure of the YMCA as a partnership of volunteers and staff, and accept a commitment to the YMCA of Coastal Carolina
  • Demonstrate diplomatic interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to establish and maintain harmonious relationships by promoting caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility with staff, YMCA members, and program participants
  • Ability to relate to children and parents
  • Ability to intervene in conflict resolution
  • Certifications required within the first 30 days of hire: YMCA approved basic lifesaving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen
  • Complete all required Redwoods trainings by their completion deadlines
  • Child Abuse Prevention supports the YMCAs commitment to child abuse prevention by:
  • Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
  • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
  • Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
  • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
