The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Research Assistant to serve as a member of the Center for Translational Cancer Research team. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. The successful applicant will bring an expert level of experience to the position and understand the demands of supporting executives in a fast-paced environment. Required Education and Experience:

Appropriate bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
-
Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines

Ability to provide a safe environment that fosters respect, inclusion, and equality of all faculty, staff, students, and visitors
Preferred Education and Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, animal science or related field
-
Experienced in handling rodents and maintenance of rodent colonies
-
Experience with oral tissue biopsy and performing histological analysis
-
Experience in liver or aging biology
-
Experience working with diverse individuals and communities
Responsibilities:
-
Conducts experiments and technical procedures; carries out research problems; researches literature in relation to possible procedures and experiments. Modifies procedures to suit the particular research needs.

Maintains rat/mouse colonies. Administers chemical and patch treatments; monitors treatment responses. Conducts rat-based studies, such as biopsy and tissue harvesting.

Prepares data for analysis and prepares samples. Obtain original research results, organize and maintain inventory and equipment used in the lab. Orders scientific supplies and equipment.

Assists in writing and/or edits for publication scientific material requiring academic knowledge; researches and catalogs reference materials requiring understanding of subject matter theory.

Participates in lab meeting within the center and other departments. Participates in joint projects involving the laboratory team.

Performs other duties as assigned.
