The Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics in the School of Medicine seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in the Kasson Laboratory. The successful candidate selected for this position will carry out research to develop and apply physical-sciences approaches to study antibody neutralization of emerging viruses. This project seeks to understand how, at a physical level, antibody neutralization works, how different antibodies operate, and how to defend against new viral threats. The laboratory studies applications to vaccines and therapeutic antibodies for influenza, SARS-CoV-2, and other emerging viruses. Strong skills and enthusiasm for and commitment to science are key qualities for this position. The Kasson Laboratory is a diverse, interdisciplinary research group that fosters a stimulating intellectual atmosphere while solving problems of physical mechanism in infectious disease.

Required Skills and Education:

  • Prior experience in biological microfluidics and/or physical virology.
  • Prior experience in supported bilayers, giant unilamellar vesicles, and/or single virus experiments.
  • Ability to work well in interdisciplinary, international teams.
  • PhD in biomedical engineering or an equivalent discipline.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent prior productivity in scientific outputs.
  • Good problem-solving skills (assessed by interview).

This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
