Position Summary:

Looking for an individual with a mechanical and problem-solving background. Fabricators at MEI will be looking at rigging, mechanical, lifting, or safety issues and creating the solution for that problem through fabrication. Will often be part of the team designing lifting or rigging equipment that may need to be tested and used frequently to complete work. This is an out-of-the-box thinking kind of position where ideas need to become actual, and hard deadlines met to be successful. Basic to expert rigging knowledge is needed to understand the mechanics of what fabrication will be needed, and fieldwork will be required.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Double-check design and specifications before commencing with work.
• Fabrication and construction of metal components.
• Finish quality products with a high level of detail and care.
• Visually inspect, welds, and quality of steel/iron.
• Visually inspect and correct Rigging materials and equipment to ensure safety and reliability.
• Recognize hazards in the work area and surrounding areas and follow proper protocols.
• Select appropriate gear such as cables, pulleys, vices, winches, etc. according to load weights and job specifics.
• Signal or verbally communicate with workers and others engaged in hoisting, suspending, and moving loads to ensure the safety of workers and materials.
• Assist in fabrication, set up, and repair of riggings, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling of gear.
• Dismantle, inspect, clean, and organize all equipment that may arise on any job or project performed by MEI Rigging and Crating.
• Run operate, and maneuver, mechanized equipment sucks as forklifts and aerial lifts.
• Able to follow company guidelines on material purchases, PO procedures, and paperwork requirements.

Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education)

• Basic Ability to understand blueprints, schematics, and diagrams
• Valid Driver’s License
• Ability to use precision measuring tools and equipment: hand, Power, and pneumatic tools
• Experience with all cutting equipment: grinders, saws, drill presses, etc.
• Demonstrates professionalism, including good rapport with coworkers, customers, and vendors.

Preferred Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED equivalent
• Previous work as a metal fabricator
• Welding certification and/or Mig, Stick welding experience

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: Performing General Physical Activities – performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials up to 50 pounds.
