POSITION TITLE: Safety Coordinator

LOCATION: Administration - Human Resources

HOURS: Part-time Monday - Friday Hours Vary

The Safety Coordinator will plan, direct, and implement the organization’s safety program. Investigate accidents and advises about preventive measures. Conducts activities that promote security and administer safety trainings. Conducts safety inspections and completes incident records. Understands important safety regulations and is familiar with revisions, trends, and updates concerning best practices in safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

· Develop and execute health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, rules, and regulations.

· Chairs the Employee Safety Committee, reviews employee workplace accidents, and conducts fire and emergency drills.

· Implements training programs for managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials. Investigates different training modes to keep material relevant, up-to-date and in compliance. Provides direct one-on-one departmental or employee safety training when requested.

· Inspects facilities to detect existing or potential security risks, accidents, and health hazards; determines corrective or preventative measures where necessary and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.

· Performs bi-annual inspection of AEDs and maintains as needed.

· Coordinates and tracks annual respirator fit testing.

· Performs respirator, forklift and tractor certifications as needed.

· Provides information, signs, posters, and other educational materials to warn of safety hazards to prevent access to hazardous conditions.

· Conducts investigation of employee accidents and injuries and prepares material and evidence for insurance investigations. Takes photographs and completes written reports.

· Maintains safety files and records such as OSHA 300 logs, OSHA 301 (or similar) reports; SDS books, inspection records, accident reports and required employee training.

· Reviews OSHA300 log to determine trends and mitigate hazards.

· Coordinates with ADOSH, fire and workers compensation representatives to establish good safety practices. Represents the organization in a professional capacity regarding community or industry safety groups.

· Maintains consistent records of acceptable attendance and punctuality according to policy guidelines.

· Must be proficient in the use of the Microsoft office suite to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

· Performs additional duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duties listed above and must also have the following required skills and abilities:

· Effective oral and written communication.

· Maintain a high level of confidentiality.

· Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft products and safety software.

· Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year a college or technical school; or three years directly related safety experience and/or training; may have equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have received current and relevant training/education on OSHA and other industry safety standards. Must possess sound knowledge of the following: safety standards and operating procedures, fire and evacuation procedures, and basic first aid; have basic knowledge of security assessments.

LANGUAGE/COMMUNICATION SKILLS Must be able to read, write and speak English. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, safety or governmental regulations. Individual must possess skills to accurately write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. In addition, they must be able to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, compute rate, ratio, percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY Maintain a mental status which facilitates sound and intellectual decisions. Establish and maintain effective networking relationships within the community and the profession. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret and implement a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Individual must possess OSHA 10-hour and 30-hour Certifications or obtain within 3 months of employment; CPR certification; valid driver's license and clean and clear driving record, which must always remain current to retain this job. All other related seminars or classes must be completed as needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms in an extension over shoulders; climb or balance on a variety of surfaces; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, taste and smell. The employee is regularly required to stand and sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus; must be able to sit and type correspondence using a computer/screen. The employee must be able to operate a vehicle and travel from site to site.
