SUMMARY
Sales and Applications Engineers take full responsibility for all aspects of application and sales duties for the assigned customer accounts. It may also include special assignments in relation to the function as an Application and Senior Application Engineer not specified here. It includes interface with several individuals at our customer’s locations and at various MAHLE worldwide plants. The work will require traveling both to customer and MAHLE locations worldwide. Cultivate relationships with key customer individuals across a variety of Functions. Ensure that other key employees have relationships with their counterparts at the customer. Develop a customer strategy that identifies new opportunities, positions the company to win new business, and exercises leadership in the execution of the strategy. Act as focal point for all commercial discussions/negotiations. Coordinate activities with Program Managers in the event of a pending milestones might be missed to establish necessary corrective actions and notify customer of plan.
Responsible areas are Commercial Vehicles with focus on BEV/FCV projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Sales and Applications Engineers coordinate the product development projects from the design phase and into production. This requires handling the necessary correspondence and customer contacts related to the application and sales duties of the assigned accounts. It also includes general administration duties as well as special assignments as needed.
  • Support and pursue new business opportunities by collecting information in early stage of the sourcing activities; generate sales opportunities for the dedicated product range or segment, research on sales feasibility of MAHLE products for customer.
  • Establish long-term relationship to the customer and strengthen contact network by identifying key “sponsors”, “anti sponsors”, “neutral” players on the customer side and drive a strategy to manage the relationship and attempt to increase “sponsors” and recognize, understand, and attempt to neutralize the “anti-sponsors” as it relates to strategic initiatives or quotes.
  • Interface with various individuals at our customers and at different locations within the MAHLE organization worldwide.
  • Sales and Applications Engineers need to become familiar with MAHLE product technology and follow up newly developed technologies and practices in order to be able to support our customers in their development programs and other aspects relevant to MAHLE.
  • Communicate/clarify issues related to prototype orders with the customer. Track customer purchase orders. Provide periodic updates on outstanding quotes submitted and RFQ’s received.
  • Understand macro automotive industry trends, how they affect our customers, how the customers’ reaction affects our company, and recommend course of action for our company to best leverage said changes/trends to our company’s benefit.
  • Must plan, prepare, and conduct customer presentations, coordinate customer visits to the plant and attend and lead customer meetings. Travel as required (domestically and internationally).
  • Develop a customer strategy that identifies new opportunities, positions our company to win new business, and exercises leadership in the execution of the strategy. Lead the sales effort to achieve internal acceptance of the customer strategy from other functional areas before implementation.
  • Support in negotiating long-term contracts, new production pricing (annual productivity, design and/or process change related, new product, etc.), warranty terms & conditions, prototype prices.
  • Support, set up and review of actual project budgets, compare activities and results with previously established budgets, and appropriate corrective measures in case of deviations.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent degree from a four-year college or university is required
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant Account Management experience in a technical capacity within the automotive industry is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation delivery, with demonstrated experience with account/customer relationships, in-depth knowledge of contract negotiations and product development
  • Good general base automotive technical knowledge, including powertrains, vehicle testing, and MAHLE’s product suite
  • Familiarity with OEM product development systems and processes required
  • Strong time and project management, problem solving and continuous improvement skills
  • Up to 25% International and domestic travel by plane and car required
  • Software skills: strong competency in Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word) required; prior experience in SAP preferred
