Company Overview

Founded in 1993, In Control, Inc. is a leading automation controls system integrator serving the water, wastewater, industrial, and utility markets in the upper Midwest and Great Plains regions. We take pride in providing excellent design, panel production, control system programming, system start-up, and follow-on support to customers. Our deeply experienced staff includes Professional Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Master Electricians, Computer Science/IT/Networking Engineers, Radio Telemetry Specialists, and Manufacturing Technicians. We highly value our employees as they are the core of our ability to deliver superior quality solutions to our customers. Our continued growth has created the need for a SCADA Engineer to join our Team.

Position Overview

Our SCADA Engineers are critical to the company, programming the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) platform and communications networks that run our customers’ plants. The team works across a variety of domains including programming within third-party SCADA software platforms, network design and configuration, reporting database implementation, and user interface (UI) design. Ultimately, this role is responsible for the most visible aspect of our company’s control systems, each plant’s operating screens.

To be successful, a candidate for the SCADA Engineer role should have design and implementation experience in at least one of the following domains: network infrastructure, software-based SCADA systems, or industrial data reporting, as well as familiarity with the other two. Appropriate to a professional engineering role with project management responsibilities, candidates should show an aptitude for mentoring and supervising junior colleagues when assigned to their project’s tasks. This position offers competitive pay and an excellent comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Review and understand project plans, specifications, process and instrumentation diagrams, and network and controls requirements.
  • Design and configure communication network infrastructure, including servers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Configure and program operator interface screens within SCADA software platforms; common platforms include Rockwell’s FactoryTalk and Wonderware’s System Platform.
  • Design and program real-time database applications and reporting formats.
  • Serve as Project Lead, acting as primary point-of-contact for the customer and coordinating internally to deliver a full scope of services.
  • Work collaboratively across Sales, Design, and Engineering Teams to ensure successful completion and startup for each project.
  • Mentor and supervise junior colleagues’ project work.
  • Contribute to and lead efforts to set company standards and processes for SCADA and reporting design and implementation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Exemplify In Control’s Core Values:
  • Radically Responsive
  • Sweat the Details
  • Get It Done, Together
  • Focus on the Right Solution for Each Customer
  • Seek Out and Share Knowledge
  • Experience in application programming and integration across a variety of hardware/software platforms.
  • Deep appreciation of customer interaction with software and implications for interface format and design.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and implement requirements from plans, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Experience mentoring fellow colleagues and team members on project-based work.
  • Advanced communication skills to support oral and written communications with coworkers, customers, construction contractors, consulting engineers, vendors, and other partners.
  • Minimum of a four-year degree in relevant technical field and 2 to 6 years’ experience in network engineering or control system platform programming. Additional years’ experience may substitute for formal technical education.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites in Minnesota, North & South Dakota, Iowa, and Wisconsin up to 15% of the time.

Technical Capabilities

  • HMI and SCADA programming experience with FactoryTalk View ME/SE, Aveva In Touch, VTScada, and/or Ignition strongly preferred.
  • PLC programming experience with Rockwell CompactLogix and MicroLogix a benefit.
