JOB TITLE: SCHOOL CUSTODIAL SUPERVISOR I

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under limited supervision, cleans the assigned school or facility and works to assure that the assigned school is safe and in good repair. Maintains grounds and supervises grounds maintenance as required. Keeps the administration informed of the immediate condition of all assigned areas. Functions as a crew leader for a small number of lower level custodial workers. Transports students in a safe and orderly manner to and from school for curricular and extracurricular activities as required.

REPORTS TO: School Principal or designee and the Director of Transportation

• 
  Develops custodial priorities and supervises work of custodial staff.

• 
  Addresses all written work requests.

• 
  Explains and/or demonstrates work procedures to custodians and other employees.

• 
  Assigns custodians to work areas and duties.

• 
  Makes rounds to determine if work stations are manned.

• 
  Inspects work of custodians.

• 
  Directs correction of deficiencies discovered during inspections.

• 
  Maintains simple clerical records of supplies and personnel information.

• 
  Notes needs to repair or replace equipment and submits notice to supervisor.

• 
  Requisitions cleaning supplies and materials.

• 
  Issues cleaning supplies and materials to custodians.

  Recommends persons to be hired, disciplined, discharged or promoted.

• 
  Trains and supervises less experienced custodians, assisting and advising as necessary.

• 
  Cleans rooms including dusting, sanitizing, spot cleaning, emptying trash cans, floor dusting, Carpet vacuuming, floor wet mopping, and room inspection.

• 
  Cleans restroom areas and replenishes paper supplies and soap as necessary.

• 
  Dusts and cleans desks and other furniture.

• 
  Empties trash receptacles; deposits recyclable material in proper containers.

• 
  Replaces burned-out light bulbs.

• 
  Cleans carpets including spot cleaning, vacuuming, damp mopping, damp buffing, shampooing, and extracting.

• 
  Cleans windows, walls, woodwork, blinds and light fixtures.

• 
  Cleans hard surface floors including scrubbing, dust mopping, damp mopping, spot mopping, sanitizing, spray buffing, high speed burnishing, shower scrub and recoat, total finish removal and recoat, and finish applications.

• 
  Inspects equipment routinely to maintain in clean condition and good repair.

• 
  Performs minor or routine maintenance on appliances and equipment, as abilities allow.

• 
  May open and/or secure buildings at start and end of work day, respectively; may turn on and off lights at start and end of day, respectively; and adjust heating or air conditioning as appropriate.

• 
  Sweeps sidewalks and walkways outside of buildings; policies grounds, picking up debris; shovels snow and/or applies de-icing compounds to walkways and driveways. Reports to supervisor any damages or needed repairs.

  Cuts lawns.

  Trims and edges.

• 
  Waters lawn, shrubs, and flowers.

• 
  Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts.

• 
  Rakes and composts or disposes of leaves.

• 
  Maintains a positive relationship with students, teachers, school staff, school administration and visitors.

• 
  May conduct fire extinguisher inspections and complete reports.

• 
  May arrange furniture for meetings or other events.

• 
  May lift and/or move furniture, equipment, and supplies.

• 
  Receives training and in-service pertinent to the job function.

• 
  Performs other functions as assigned by supervisor.
