School Nurse Liaison

Position Overview:

The School Liaison Nurse is a position funded by the Indiana Department of Health Crisis Co Ag Grant to assist Noble County schools in the recovery of pandemic-related deficits in school health including vision, hearing, and dental screenings; routine immunization clinics; and other health services identified by individual schools and allowable under the school liaison statute (Indiana SB4).

Essential Duties:

• Create partnerships with county school nurses to identify school health needs.
• Complete school needs assessment surveys to identify areas of need for each county school.
• Conduct school health screenings in partnership with county school nurses.
• Assist with school health screening documentation and follow up as needed.
• Assist county schools with procurement of stock emergency medications as needed.
• Organize and conduct school vaccine clinics in partnership with county schools and school nurses.
• Administer vaccines in accordance to IDOH, ACIP, FDA, and CDC guidelines: Review patient records to ensure accurate immunizations being administered, review patient assessments for contraindications, prepare immunizations for injection using sterile technique, review with patient immunizations being administered, provide information regarding immunization side effects and remedies for side effects, administer immunizations using sterile technique and monitor patients for signs of anaphylactic or other reactions.
• Advise parents, students, and schools on needed routine vaccinations for various age groups based on CDC guidelines.
• Ensure each county school has up-to-date knowledge of communicable disease management in the school setting and plans to address occurrences of communicable diseases in the school setting.
• Attend and participate in Drug Free Noble County board meetings, activities, and programs.
• Attend and participate in county school safety meetings.
• Attend and participate in school corporation wellness committees.
• Provide referrals and resources to county schools requesting assistance with programs and education outside the scope of the school liaison position.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable County Health Department policies and procedures, Indiana State Department of

Health standards, HIPAA regulations, and all other federal state laws relating to privacy, confidentiality, and service delivery.

• Assist with the development of policies, procedures, and new programs related to the school liaison nurse position.
• Coordinate responsibilities with other health department medical staff and ensure duties are accomplished with frequent communication.
• Respond to telephone calls and questions from members of the public, including scheduling appointments, making referrals, counseling, and providing health information as appropriate.
• Maintain current records and documentation of services provided.
• Maintain appropriate and accurate vaccination inventories.
• Attend health related meetings and prepare and conduct educational presentations for local schools as requested.
• Attend in-service programs and professional education workshops and training seminars as appropriate.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent PLUS Nursing degree, BSN preferred
2. Active and unencumbered Indiana Nurse License; RN preferred
3. Ongoing continuing education
4. Healthcare provider CPR certification

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
