The Position

The Department of Discovery Oncology at Genentech is seeking a highly talented, creative and motivated scientist to identify, validate, and mechanistically characterize novel oncology targets with the goal of developing the next generation of cutting-edge anticancer therapies. The focus of our lab is to identify novel cancer vulnerabilities by leveraging innovative in vivo, in vitro and ex vivo model systems together with a broad range of functional technologies; i.e. mass-spectrometry, CRISPR and chemical biology approaches. Accordingly, the successful candidate will use a variety of chemical, biochemical, cell biological, and genetic techniques for target identification and pursuit of the underlying mechanistic link to disease. Candidates with a deep understanding of the mechanistic processes that drive cancer development and/or with extensive experience using genetic approaches to study pathways involved in tumorigenesis are encouraged to apply. This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys the translational aspects of converting basic biology discoveries in oncology into drug discovery programs and who thrives in a collaborative team environment.

Who You Are:

• Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree, or additional Master’s and/or Doctoral degrees. Education/training focused on Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, or Molecular Biology is preferable. This should be supported by a successful track record including strong publications, authorship on patents, or other tangible success metrics.

• Proficiency in a broad range of biochemical, molecular, and cell biological techniques.

Key technical skills include:

• Cell-line engineering — lentiviral & CRISPR-based approaches including cloning strategies

• Molecular biology techniques — construct design & engineering

• Functional genomic screening techniques — CRISPR

• Cell proliferation assays — conventional & advanced model systems including organoids

• Cell biological assays — immunofluorescence & high content imaging

• Biochemical techniques — western blotting, co-immunoprecipitation, and in vitro assays using purified components

• Flow cytometry techniques — reporter-based screening platforms

• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and verbal/written communication skills.

• Flexibility in adapting new techniques to accommodate evolving research program needs.

• Ability and desire to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $98,200 - $182,400. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
