SUMMARY
The Secretary helps to assure an efficiently run school office.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Good physical health and clean background check
2. High School diploma
3. Ability to read basic instructions and write reports
4. Ability to follow written and oral directions
5. Ability to communicate effectively and clearly to staff, children and parents
6. Ability to work smoothly and efficiently with all staff
7. Ability to think on the job so as to make the right decision in the circumstances
8. Ability to use the computer to prepare and maintain required records
9. Workable knowledge and use of computer technology and software programs
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
1. Intelligence – General learning ability, ability to understand instructions, concepts and underlying principles, ability to reason and make judgments.
2. Verbal Skills – Ability to understand meanings or words and ideas associated with them, and to transfer understandings to individuals and groups as necessary.
3. Numerical Skills – Ability to perform basic math operations quickly and accurately.
4. Manual Dexterity – Ability to perform manual functions easily.
MAJOR DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Follows District policy in all actions.
2. Maintains a clean, receptive work area.
3. Maintains confidential information.
4. Responds to staff, children and parents in a positive manner.
5. Maintains the staff absence roster.
6. Monitors the sign-in of substitutes.
7. Maintains the substitute book, including internal subbing.
8. Answers the telephone in a timely manner.
9. Submits all building work orders to the Maintenance Department.
10. Maintains the school budget.
11. Checks in all coming shipments (i.e. UPS, RPS, etc.).
12. Distributes U.S. Mail and District Mail to all building employees.
13. Maintains student attendance, tardiness, suspensions, etc.
14. Compiles the Suspension Report for submission to the District Office (School and Bus).
15. Responsible for sign-in and sign-out of all visitors.
16. Maintains student registration and student transfer for the building.
17. Adheres to established Board of Education Policy.
18. Other duties as assigned.

This position may require temperamental suitability in the following areas:
1. Adaptability to performance of a variety of duties without loss of efficiency or composure.
2. Ability to accept responsibility for direction, control or planning of an activity.
3. Adaptability to dealing with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position may require the physical ability to carry out the following activities:
1. Gaining access to all areas of a school instructional site.
2. Communicating with others (talking, hearing, keyboarding and handwriting).
3. Lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 30 pounds; objects weighing more than 30 pounds will be lifted and carried with a minimum of two-person assist.
4. Reaching all areas of the school buildings and grounds quickly in case of an emergency.
